WASHINGTON The Army's chief of staff says the Army is taking a hard look at itself to make certain that something like the Fort Hood rampage doesn't happen again.
The shootings left 13 dead and 29 wounded. The alleged gunman, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan (nih-DAHL' mah-LEEK' hah-SAHN'), was wounded by civilian police.
Gen. George Casey warns against reaching conclusions about motives until investigators have fully explored the attack. Early reports suggest Hasan, a Muslim, was angry about the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and worried about his pending deployment to Afghanistan.
Casey says focusing on Hasan's Islamic roots could "heighten the backlash" against all Muslims in the military.
Casey appeared Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Wish it was so. Texas has no jurisdiction on a military post. Ft. Hood is like another state.
If all reports are true, it seems to me, (esp the latest report from the UK)....how could hasan have been ignored for so long?
YA think? Maybe it is DESERVED . They all need to be given honorable discharges NOW
Might interest you to know that Judge Andrew Napolitano, agrees with me. Something called: Status of forces agreements!!!
The cops didn’t go rogue. They were Department of Defense Law Enforcement Officers working ON THE POST. They were not Texas LEOs, although Texas might (and I don’t know this for sure) have granted them peace officer status within the state. FEDERAL COPS, not Texas cops
Tom Kenniff, attorney, Army JAG officer and Iraq war veteran who served in Tikrit, was online Friday, Nov. 6, at Noon ET to discuss what happened at Ft. Hood, crimes committed in the military, possible motives and what circumstances can lead to such occurrences.
Thomas Keniff: "I believe the Judge Advocate General's Office on Ft. Hood will have exclusive jurisdiction over this case, at least for purposes of charging him with multiple counts of murder, attempted murder, etc. This can be, and most certainly be a death penalty case. Its possible he could also be charged by the Feds with committing an act of terrorism, but my guess is the Army will get first crack at him."
What will be the stupid Obama knee-jerk at Ft. Hood be? Metal detectors at the entrance to the Soldiers Readiness Processing Center?
Bury the guy in Bacon Fat....no one should be eating much of it so we have a surplus.,..

.
I watched both Casey and Rossi on FNC, CNN, and MSNBC
Both are egotistical showboating pansies - just like Barack Hasan Obama Junior - playing Perez Hilton to TV cameras
Jerks like this get good soldiers killed - or prosecuted
They are products of the Ted Kennedy-Bill Clinton mindset
A military is a killing machine of hardcore professionals
If it otherwise in any way we have Viet Nam - LBJ style, Somalia & Bosnia - Slick Willie style, and JAG-FBI/Mirada girly-manchildren in Iraq and Afghanistan
During WWII and Korea civilian journalists were tougher than Casey &/or Rossi
PS - What is with the Hollywood/San Franciso flipped-up beret and the extra 40-60 pounds on these desk officers?
They need to crawl through the deep red mud at a live mg fire infiltration course at night - during a thunderstorm
They would not last 5 minutes in action
Well, we know for a fact that not focusing on it just got us 13 KIA and about 40 WIA.
Stupid ass.
How about letting specified soldiers actually carry weapons on base?
It's worked pretty well up to now.,
Good observations devolve. Having been in the Military, you would note things that I would miss.
Wow, it looks very, very nice on the thread!! You did a good job.
Political correctness shall prevail. I bet you not one Army officer will be called out for ignoring the bad fit this guy presented. Sloppy sloppy...
