Having been in the position of watching my favored candidate stumble badly in an endorsement session while a more liberal Republican alternative hit all the right notes, I reserved my opinion on the goings-on in the recent Congressional race in New York's 23 Congressional District. Now that it is over, I have concluded that while the local Republican Party leadership's endorsement of Dede Scozzafava may have been a what-in-the-world-were-they-thinking moment, I suspect that many would now be saying, "Can't they do any better than this?", had they had endorsed Doug Hoffman from the beginning. While Hoffman may have hit most of the right notes on paper on the issues of importance to nationwide conservatives, I could not discern any notable qualities in him when it came to running a political campaign. Nor did he seem to have ever studied Tip O'Neil's maxim that "All politics are local." A common refrain in comments from those in NY-23 is that Hoffman started out and remained very weak when discussing local issues.

W’s fault.
Wonder how all the “Independents” in NY23 feel now that, despite promising to vote against it, Ownes went right to DC and voted FOR this Health Care Destruction bill.
If Dede had won, she might have been the ONE Republican to support the healthcare bill...she WAS ACORN-connected.
THERE IS NO ONE TO BLAME EXCEPT THE GOP ITSELF!
THE NEXT TEA PARTY MARCH SHOULD BE ON GOP HEADQUARTERS
It wasm’t lost ... it was given to the dhims by the RINO.
Baloney.
you are right- we did not lose a vote on health care to a duhmmie- Scuzzy would have voted for it too.
Hasn’t anyone been paying attention the sorry state of the elected officials in the state of NY.
All their craziness of switching parties back and forth, locking out the opponents, and generally behaving like a bunch of wild animals instead of grown men and women.
NY makes the 9th. circus actually appear dignified and intelligent.
I put the blame where it belongs at the feet of the 11 Republican Party leaders in NY23.
Scuzzy only got 45% of the vote in the first round while the other conservative candidates got 55% of the vote. The individual voters had made known to the leaders they wanted a conservative.
It was Scuzzy’s friend who flipped with 11% of the vote - and went against her county’s wishes. The lap dogs followed suit.
The GOP needs to reform all it’s primary laws.
The GOP.
the people who put up Scazabufflo
Didn’t she promise to vote for Obamacare if elected?
The voters are the first line of defense always.
And the bosses who selected her.
And a RINO who received $900,000 from GOP coffers who then supports the Democrat. Republican leadership is too stupid to be rewarded with power.
As the article states, it was Hoffmans to lose and he did despite great efforts to help him succeed.
