"Passing this amendment allows the House to meet our criteria of preserving the existing protections against abortion funding in the new legislation" the bishops wrote in a letter to individual members...."
An endorsement? More disinformation, if you ask me. Even the two sentences it quotes only says that the Bill thus amended meets one criterion (not funding abortion.) What did they say in the rest of the letter? And who signed it? When? On whose authority?
The bishops had other criteria (conscience protection, not only with regard to abortion, but also euthanasia, infanticide, physician-assisted suicide, "terminal sedation" or whatever the current euphemisms may be), and those have not been addressed.
Moreover, these criteria (and others), even if met, wouldn't result in a USCCB endorsement, it would result in their withdrawing their objection, i.e. at best a neutral stance. IIRC.
The other side lies continuously. Keep that in mind. But keep me posted.
For those who might not be familiar with it: the American Papist guy, Thomas Peters, is well-known and well-regarded as a highly informed, stand-up guy. (More to be trusted than Poltiico, needless to say!)
