With Monday marking the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, Ronald Reagan's son Michael tells Newsmax that his father was deeply troubled by the wall from the night it was first erected.
Michael Reagan also said President Barack Obama's decision not to attend the anniversary ceremonies in Berlin is "sad," but "completely consistent" with Obama.
On June 12, 1987, President Reagan delivered a rousing speech near the Berlin Wall in which he challenged the leader of the Soviet Union: "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!"
Less than 2 1/2 years later, on Nov. 9, 1989, the wall came down.
"This is something he wanted from the early 1960s," Reagan responded.
"In a debate with Bobby Kennedy he said, 'Why don't you have your brother tear down that wall?' That was in 1962. In a 1964 speech he talked about freedom for all those people behind the Berlin Wall and the Iron Curtain.

Ronald Reagan, where are you? We need you more than ever.
Very telling indeed.....
I weep for our country.
I remember in college that the “progressives” were saying that the Berlin Wall was built to keep West Berliners out of the socialist paradise of East Germany. These “progressives” now run the White House.
It really wasn’t too hard to understand who you were dealing with when you heard statements like that...but, apparently, about two thirds of today’s Republican leaders still cannot figure out these people (Rush is one of the small group that does fully understand these people - which is why he is where he is today).
And in other news......His other son, the sniveling turd known as Ron Reagan Junior says “if you REALLY knew his dad” you would know that he really loved the WALL and communism.
So, how come they are not in favor of a wall to keep illegals out of the socialist paradise being built by 0bama.
LOL, those are his new voters for 2012.
"Man cannot be free unless government is limited." - President Reagan
I wonder how many people died trying to cross out of West Berlin?
Just watched a movie on TCM about the Berlin wall starring James Mason. My first thought was that all jr high or high school kids should watch it because it certainly didn’t make communism seem glamorous. Could never understand the college kids or the present administration’s fascination with communism.
“So, how come they are not in favor of a wall to keep illegals out of the socialist paradise being built by 0bama.”
Because they are NOT STUPID and they are NOT MISGUIDED, another pair of mistakes made by people on our side. No, they are VERY SMART people and know EXACTLY what they want (i.e., a weakened country) and EXACTLY what is necessary to achieve that goal (a weak economy, an in-cohesive society, and a weak military).
Ironically, that speech is just as applicable to the gates and occupants of the US congress today as it was to the Brandenburg Gate and Gorbachev 20 years ago. It should be re-broadcast on all stations repeatedly. What a gem. Thats what a U.S. president sounds like; in stark contrast to that arrogant, usurper, buffoon-in-chief in the WH.
Probably why the charlatan refused to go to Berlin. He has no intention of tearing down the wall he and his comrades have erected between the we the people and his congressional power base.
Sadly, the Iron Curtain has been resurrected in Washington D.C.
“Mr. Obama, tear down this wall!”
"Mmmmmm, mmmmmm, mmmmmmm."
Last week the Was ComPost had a bunch of stories about the Berlin Wall falling and failed to mention Reagan in any of them. Lib writers acted as if by chance the Berlin Wall “just fell”.
Did you ever ask them why the Guards on the Soviet side shot those trying to escape from the "Worker's Paradise?"
When I hear an idiot spouting off about the virtues of Castro's Cuba, I ask why those trying to escape on (literally) anything that floats are killed by Castro's armed thugs.
I know that they are not stupid, but they are hypocritical bastards.
The author “small brained Jimmie Meyers” failed to mention that Reagan switched from Rat to Repub. after Kennedy allowed the Berlin wall to go up and stand.
