Critics say that the tone and brevity of Obama's remarks on Fort Hood 'did not appreciate the gravity of what he represents' while others say he had the right presidential instincts.
As the U.S. military and law enforcement were scrambling to save lives after a deadly shooting rampage at Ft. Hood, Texas, President Obama opened his remarks Thursday with a two-minute "shout out" to audience members who attended the Tribal Nations Conference hosted by the Interior Department.
Obama's initial comments on the shooting that killed 13 and wounded scores of others came at the conclusion of Thursday's conference, which was attended by leaders from several of the 564 federally recognized American Indian tribes.
"I planned to make some broader remarks," he told the crowd. "But as some of you might have heard there has been a tragic shooting at the Fort Hood Army base in Texas."
The president's words on the deadly rampage came two minutes after he gave a "shout out" to an audience member and stressed the need to pass health care reform.
"I hear that Dr. Joe Medicine Crow was around, and so I want to give a shout out to that Congressional Medal of Honor winner. Its good to see you," he said.

What is left to be said about this nitwit. All of it. Over and over. Until the vast army of nitwits in this country (not the leftists themselves but the nitwits who fail to see how dangerous the leftists are) finally wake up and hear. And see it for themselves.
Not sure about that - but he made a trip to Walter Reed to visit the troops there - THE FIRST TIME IN HIS PESIDENCY!!!
The White House said it was planned before the terror attack at Fort Hood....& it was only a coincidence.
There aren't words to describe what I'm feeling about this man.
If we looked at history, he would have been flying somewhere far away in Air Force 1 with an F-15 escort.
Yes, the WH press office has made sure we all know he rubbed shoulders with the wounded today. It was a planned photo op just like his little midnight ride to Dover. It’s obvious he’s going to use this as an opportunity to screw McChrystal on troop reinforcements. He will say the emotional pressures are obviously too great to send more people in harm’s way.
Yes read reports Zero will go to Ft. Hood.
I feel sorry for the heroes there to have to endure his visit.
Oh good gosh. Really? The Messiah is coming to Killeen? Did he say when?
In the least he should have said the muslim terrorist acted stupidly.
Hey - what a chance for Beerfest II - have Hasan and the families of the victims over for a brewski!
Unbelievable . . .
Not only a nitwit but ignorant as well. It’s the Medal of Honor and it’s bestowed by Congress.
Yes he is - don’t know when - will have to search FR posts - read it here.
Tell me you just saw retired Lt Col Ralph Peters on BOR....keeping it real, no shout outs.
Thanks, I’ll look around and try to find it.
Nobody’s disputing that he’s Muslim. But if martyring himself has been a long-term goal of his, 1) he took an incredibly long, difficult, roundabout route to it, and 2) he failed (and also missed the opportunity to score points for Allah at the much higher profile Walter Reed).
I’m sure at the time he did it, he was thinking at least to some degree “I’m doing this for Allah”. But if he was fully mentally competent (as much as anyone choosing to do such things can be), he’d have made a higher priority of taking himself out in the process. That’s why I’m not sure this was a well-laid plan for martyrdom — seems more like it was an impulsive thing done against a backdrop of Muslim belief. After all, the theology behind this stuff is pretty explicit.
This guy’s educational background is such that he would have no trouble outfitting himself with an explosive vest to make sure the job got done and he got to Paradise instead of a US military brig, but he didn’t. Plenty of jihadists are stupid enough not to be able to manage the technical end of martyrdom, even though they very much want to (think the infamous shoe bomber, who tried over and over again, unsuccessfully, to light a fuse in his shoe on board an aircraft), but Hasan doesn’t fit that bill. If Hasan had been in full possession of his mental faculties when he did this, he’d be dead.
When people are losing their minds, they often turn to a more radical form of whatever general religious background they have, but they’ve still lost their minds. And even if they already subscribed to a radical brand of religion, they can still lose their minds as a separate step. There are some very dangerous people out there who are in *full* control of their very strong mental and intellectual capacities, and they will maximize their opportunities to inflict death and destruction, but Hasan didn’t. Twelve servicemembers gunned down at Ft. Hood is awful, to be sure, but as I pointed out, he could have done a similar attack at Walter Reed, with greater media and political impact, and also he only needed to wait a little longer to be in a position to take out an entire transport plane full of US servicemembers on their way to Iraq or Afghanistan. Even if he’s been thinking of himself as a “sleeper” jihadist for quite a while, it appears to me that he very recently lost his ability to control himself in furtherance of his “greater” objectives.
see my post #6 here and check the time...*smiles*
Fort Hood’s 9/11 Islamist terror strikes US again
I just go out doors, play my pipes, and sharpen by basket hilted sword from the Isle of Skye.
Time ois coming when we will have to ante up.
Is that not unbelievable? He knew what he was going to do and look at that evil grin on his face.
I just saw him!!! Holy mackeral - FINALLY - Someone has the guts to call it what it is!!! He was on fire!
