Inevitably, it seems, films about the end of the world generate much discussion and, often, controversy.
Five months ago, hype about the soon-to-be-released disaster film, 2012 (trailer), prompted me to publish a piece under the headline, How Would the Governments of Our Planet Prepare Six Billion People for the End of the World? Today, I came across more buzz about the film set for release Nov. 13 that prompts me to write about it again.

Today, I came across more buzz about the film set for release Nov. 13 that prompts me to write about it again. I guess their PR machine is working, but I digress.
In a Digital Spy report published Monday, I learned that Roland Emmerich, the filmmaker behind 2012, admitted that he feared coming under attack by Muslims think Fatwa if he included a scene in which the Kaaba, a cube-shaped building at the heart of Mecca that is the center of Muslim prayers and the Islamic Hajj pilgrimage. And then I learned more: In place of the Muslim holy place, Emmerich said he decided to substitute a well-known symbol of the Christian faith the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro in place of the Muslim holy place.
Surely, Emmerich knows that Christians around the world will riot in the streets and call for his head on a platter if his film shows the destruction of a symbol of the faith. Doesnt he know?
Sarcasm concluded.
Such mind-boggling cowardice.
Reminds me of a bully picking on a child instead of a gang member.
Cowardice. Try ashamed.
Mark 8:38 Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
Why make the movie at all?
Prefers to Destroy the Statue of “Christ the Redeemer”, Hollywood has chosen to abandon Jesus, and any semblance of morality which stems from Him, I choose to reject Hollywood.
Perhaps we should counter with the idea that the film makers considered Islam and the muslim world so insignificant that it wasn’t worth mentioning in the movie.
If it were all destroyed, who’d care?
Oh, com’on...its MODERN POPULAR CULTURE! Get with the program!
Can’t you just NOT wait to stand in line to be the “first” to see it on the “big” screen after plunking down $10 for a ticket, and another $20 for a coke and popcorn only to sit in a theater with sticky floors, forced to watch 15 minutes of “commercials,” put up with crying babies and gang banger wannabes talking on their cell phones (”Whatup Dawg? Whore bring my money to da house yet...?”) throughout the entire experience?
Hollywoood lost me AND my money YEARS ago...SCREW-EM.
Can’t you just NOT wait...in the name of “entertainment” to open your heart and mind in trading two hours of your life you’ll never see again to enjoy YET ANOTHER, life affirming, positive Hollywood message about the future our country, humans, the world, etc. of DEATH, DESTRUCTION,CHAOS, HOPELESSNESS, PAIN, FEAR DEATH,DESTRUCTION, FEAR,CHAOS, MORE DEATH, MORE DESTRUCTION...oh, did I mention DEATH and DESTRUCTION, FEAR, FEAR, and MORE FEAR rendered in amazing accuracy to the very last detail in wonderful CGI? Can’t you just wait...NOT!
Trouble is, the filmmaker said why he made the change.
Sig update
