A Nevada Democratic Party leader who pleaded guilty to hitting his teenage son and throwing him on the hood of a car has resigned, according to a letter received Friday by a newspaper.

Paul Belt, the party chairman of Douglas County, said in a letter to the Record-Courier that he resigned his post after his "regrettable actions."

He pleaded guilty on Wednesday to a misdemeanor count of domestic battery. He was sentenced to a suspended one-year jail term and ordered to attend counseling.

Belt, 45, was accused of punching his 15-year-old son several times on Oct. 22 when he learned his son was no longer on the boys' junior varsity soccer team.

Oooh, okay. This ended a little differently than I expected. Thought it was another one of those “never hit your kid” stories. I was all ready to stand up for him - Dem or not.

He obviously has anger management problems. If he punched the kid once, I could actually see but repeatedly punching your kid - you’ve got problems.

If the kid thinks he is gay, would that make this a hate crime?

No - nothing to do with sports at all. I’m just saying I thought it was one of those “dad puts teenage son in line” stories.

The 2 stories I know of where a dad punched his older teenage son - both times the police sided with the dad. In one case - dad found out the kid/adult had stolen money from a neighbor and in the other case the kid was on drugs and kept saying “f... you, f... you, f... you” to the dad who then punched him.

Complete and totally different case here. Like I said, I was prepared to defend dad but...then I read the story. Dad at least had the decency to resign. No one like this should be in public service.

Oh ok. Sorry I know how young men can get out of line and need an older wiser man to ‘instruct’ them in a fatherly sort of way.

I’m glad you agree. I was initially mortified - it’s still literally doubling up your fist and punching your child.

One was my ex and the other was a good friend. Real stories, both cases, cops didn’t see a problem in either case and both were reported. In my ex’s case, apparently his dad did the same thing to him when he was about 17.

Must be a guy thing. I cannot imagine, no matter what my daughter did, that I would double up my fist and punch her. I might yell, I might scream in the most extreme case but I would never punch her.

Guy thing. But not in this case. This guy’s crazy.

He also said he was not angry at his son.

Gee...I wonder what he is like when he is NOT angry at his son???

“It was frustration over a series of incidents with the coaches in a two-week span,” Belt wrote.

Oh well, that explains it doesn’t it? Frustrated over incidents with the coach??? Punch out your son.

Dumbass, you should be punching the coaches, not your son!

OK, I see. The coaches would fight back. Alrighty then.

He is absolutely typical of all democrats adhering to the teachings of Saul Alinsky.

Democrats hesitating to support obamacare will get their asses kicked too.

I was floor guard/d.j. at a skating rink in my 30’s (just a fun side job, owner was a good friend). Kids got real bad - yelling and cussin’ in my face. I yelled back. We had a deputy who watched the parking lot, took me aside one night, and said I was getting too angry - he thought I might hit one of the little angels. I eventually quit when the owner passed the biz on to his son. A couple of months after that, deputy Don got arrested for hitting a kid.
