The police officer who brought down a gunman after he went on a shooting rampage at the Fort Hood Army base was on the way to have her car repaired when she heard a report over a police radio that someone was shooting people in a center where soldiers are processed before they are deployed abroad, authorities said on Friday.
As she pulled up to the center, the officer, Kimberly Munley, spotted the gunman, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, brandishing a pistol and chasing a wounded soldier outside the building, said Chuck Medley, the director of emergency services at the base.
Sergeant Munley bolted from her car and shot at Major Hasan. He turned toward her and began to fire. She ran toward him, continuing to fire, and both she and the gunmen went down with several bullet wounds, Mr. Medley said.***
Sergeant Munley, who is 34, is an expert in firearms and a member of the SWAT team for the civilian police department on the base, officials said.
She received two wounds in each thigh and one to her right wrist. The bases fire chief applied torniquets to stop her bleeding, and she was taken to a hospital...where she was reported in stable condition on Tuesday
Sergeant Munley joined the police force on the sprawling base in January 2008 after a career in the Army. Mr. Medley described her as highly trained, and said she had received specific training in a tactic called active shooter protocol, which was intended for the kind of situation she encountered on Thursday.

Sounds like you got it worse than I did. I just notice the pain in cool, damp weather. And the numbness is just at a some of the fingertips.
She was taking her car to a mechanic. She probably was ampled up in anticipation. ;-)
He’s posted this stuff against her about 6 times. If he’s really a soldier as he says I would think he would give a person who just put her life on the line for military personnel her due.
Welcome to FR! There are plenty of jerks on FR and sometimes they’re difficult to ignore.
You forgot....”police officer acting stupidly.”

Thats one heck of a daily commute. =)
Congratulations on your recovery. Good to hear the numbness is fading.
Thank you.
Let’s hope the same for all these soldiers.
Wow, they can see into the future. There is so much conflicting reporting about the situation, I can understand the frustration. There is such pressure to get an article out that I think some reporters might be making things up... not like that hasn't happened before.
From what the docs told me the nerves in your fingers grow a mm a day.
Seems strange but i guess they were right.
It seems i only got a few mm’s left to full recovery.
I hope the same for you.
Hats off to the very brave and skilled lady officer.
