I was doing a bit of research, and found this. Hope it helps.

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama on Saturday urged Congress to hold off on any investigation of the Fort Hood rampage until federal law enforcement and military authorities have completed their probes into the shootings at the Texas Army post, which left 13 people dead. On an eight-day Asia trip, Obama turned his attention home and pleaded for lawmakers to "resist the temptation to turn this tragic event into the political theater." He said those who died on the nation's largest Army post deserve justice, not political stagecraft. "The stakes are far too high," Obama said in a video and Internet address released by the White House while the president he was flying from Tokyo to Singapore, where Pacific Rim countries were meeting.
But this really shows just how incompetent his communications staff is (and this is why they had to do a background check on Hasan before BO made his speech about the incident):
"You hate to say it, but this is what it's come to," says a White House source. "It's part of making sure the President isn't burned."
Yeah, that's what really matters isnt it? Not the fact that Hasan was at that Homeland Security meeting and not that he subsequently ended up slaughtering soldiers and civilians and an unborn child!
But i don't believe them for a minute when they say they were surprised he was at that meeting.

The massacre in Fort Hood, Texas, was an act in the war the Islamists declared some three decades ago against America, the great Satan in particular, and the west in general.
At what point in his life Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan — 39 years of age, Muslim by birth to a Palestinian-American immigrant family and a psychiatrist serving in the U.S. military — became in his own mind a loyal soldier of the global Islamist jihad (war) is highly relevant as are other details of his private life in piecing together the psychological profile of this accused mass murderer.
It seems there can be no mistaking that Nidal Hasan went out as an Islamist warrior to kill as many infidels before he found his martyrdom.

Yes, most prez’s have speech writers. BUT he chose to go by what they wrote. He has his own mind, and could have done the right thing. Numerous presidents have modified speeches that have been written by others, they haven’t always taken the advice of their advisors.... They are ultimately in control. Any pointing of fingers of that one, isn’t defensible for me. (but I’m just a avg voter, who complains~what do I know.
Yep! He was ok with it and unless he doesn’t have two brain cells to rub together he would’ve known that he was gonna piss people off.
Have you heard one person defend what he did with that shout out? I haven’t. The whole idea of saying anything in that speech other than what happened at Ft. Hood is beyond comprehension. And the smiling and chuckling. Uhhhh! Every day he spits in our face. Every day he becomes more beligerent if that’s even possible.

Worth listening to...I think a lot of opinions have been shaped by reports and interpretations of what was said.

Thanks so much for adding both! Things seem to have changed quickly. Am very interested in what “hasan” has to say. Doesn’t mean I will believe anything.
