WASHINGTON - Born and reared in Virginia, the son of immigrant parents from a small Palestinian town near Jerusalem, he joined the Army right out of high school, against his parents wishes. The Army, in turn, put him through college and then medical school, where he trained to be a psychiatrist.
But Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, the 39-year-old man accused of Thursdays mass shooting at Fort Hood, Tex., started having second thoughts about his military career a few years ago after other soldiers harassed him for being a Muslim, he told relatives in Virginia.
He had also more recently expressed deep concerns about being sent to Iraq or Afghanistan. Having counseled scores of returning soldiers with post-traumatic stress disorder, first at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington and more recently at Fort Hood, he knew all too well the terrifying realities of war, said a cousin, Nader Hasan.

Poor baby Hasan.
I knew yhis would happen, it’s not difficult to predict the left’s tactics, Murderer is The Victim, and the victims are responsible for their own murders..............
See?
It's ALL OUR FAULT.
The poor guy. Anyway, I have it on good word from DHS that only returning Iraq vets and white guys are terrorists.
Last night a military guy was on FOX and said this is not true.
Why does the media trumpet what his relatives say, but pretty much disregard what he military colleagues say?
WTH? Sounds more like a child than a man.
If he didn’t want to deploy, he could have just called Orly Taitz.
Sorry, I reject the apologist reasoning here. I reject this point of view. This wasn’t an illiterate immigrant, starving and without resources. Uh,uh. He was a middle-class, educated physician from a reasonably well-off family in Virginia.
He was given the benefit of a half a million dollar education and a six figure salary on our dime and managed to emerge with the intellect and emotional maturity of a six-year old. Sorry, not buying it.
so when does he appear on countdown or maddow??
Hasan was mortified about deployment
So why did the prick just not off himself...
what a douche!
Soldiers do not harass officers. And officers who accept promotions incur more years in uniform. If this terrorist didnt want to stay, he should have refused his Major promotion and he would have been seperated from the Army. It happens frequently.
If this guy had been a Christian, the NYT would be leading the charge to “investigate fundamentalist churches”.
Victim my a$$!! his despicable act was premeditated. he should be put before a firing squad.
>> I knew yhis would happen, its not difficult to predict the lefts tactics, Murderer is The Victim, and the victims are responsible for their own murders.............. <<
Boo Hoo, I have been harassed because I am fat, that doesn’t justify me going into a 24 hour fitness or curves and start shooting up the place, now does it?
He was mortified because he supports the Taliban, no doubt.
He deemed fighting Islamic terrorists the “wrong side.”
Basic treason 101.
Speaking of promotions, how does someone with lousy fitreps get promoted to O-4? Is the Army this hosed? PC run wild?
No he wasn't.
He was a jihadi.
NYT, you're a bunch of filthy liars.
How many times are psychiatrists called into actual combat? I don’t understand his fear.
