My son was “Nurse Betty” (RN and medic) all through basic and AIT. Once he was deployed he was “Doc” unless it was someone who he had been in training with - he was still “Nurse Betty”. His father was “Redman” for his American Indian heritage - with all the jokes that go with that - including replacing his weapon with a bow and arrow. It guys doing their guy measuring thing.
As careful as the Army is about racial slurs I have a hard time believing that Hasan was referred to as a “camel jockey” in the work environment.
