Fort Hood shooting suspect, Major Nidal Malik Hasan, wanted out of the Army after being constantly harassed by others in the military and was called a "camel jockey," his family said.
As Hasan was about to be deployed to Iraq, he was suffering from some of the same stresses that he was trained as an Army psychiatrist to treat.
Although the 39-year-old had just been promoted to major in May, his family says he had hired a lawyer to help him get out of the Armed Forces.
"Apparently became very disgruntled in the mission in Iraq and Afghanistan and voiced that to a lot of his colleagues," said Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX).
He also voiced it to the world in an Internet posting, where he compared suicide bombers to GI's who save their colleagues by throwing themselves on a grenade.
"Just keep in mind mass killers pretty much know they want to die and they tend to take as many people with them as they can in a shooting," said former FBI agent and ABC News consultant Brad Garrett, who also believes Hasan didn't want to survive the Ft. Hood shooting.
"It is one of those things where he went and wanted to kill a lot of people and commit suicide maybe in his own mind that he's saving peoples' lives," said Garrett. "As illogical as that sounds, in his mind, that would be quite logical."
Hasan is an American citizen of Palestinian descent and after the 9/11 attacks, his cousin says he was the target of constant harassment from others in the military. His tormentors called him a "camel jockey," said his cousin, Nader Hasan. He wanted out of the Army, so he paid back his military student loans and hired an attorney.

Screw that...he violated his oath to the Constitution. Nothing more treasonous than that.
We are constantly called TEA-BAGGERS. Do we now have a reason to shoot up the entire MSM and the LEFT??
Well . . . . .
Perhaps if we declare ourselves Moslems?
I can’t go there though. Not being able to have a beer with my pork roast is a crime against my conscience.
Anyone wearing a sheet for clothing near a military installation; not whine if they are called a name.
In the days befor political correctness my grandfather used to say that we methodists were nothing but baptists who learned to read.
There was no animosity or disdain in it. There really couldn’t be in our little town of 300 people and one methodist and one baptist church. Lots of times people went to whichever church they happened to feel like attending on that particular sunday.
those military colleagues make fun of each other for being from BROOKLYN, or NEBRASKA, or THE SOUTH....or EATING CORN BREAD!....
EXACTLY. It's part of the whole male social grease that takes the edge off everything. Low-testosteroners sometimes have a hard time getting it.
I'm (ex-) Army and live near the Air Force Academy, which gives me lots of opportunity to tease the "Chair Force" and remind the flyboys that historically, they are merely the (sometimes) precocious offspring of the ARMY Air Corps.
At least you aren’t one of those Herring shucking Norwegians. LOL
I agree. Unless the military has changed a lot since I was discharged in ‘64 we were taught even if we didn’t respect the man we had to respect the office. I just can’t believe any enlisted person being anything but respectful toward him if for no other reason than rank. Think is is BS story.
I heard a military guy on FOX last night say that the claims of harassment are not true.
See my #137...I've already put 'em on notice.
Count me in on the redhead thing too. Now I want to kill someone. /
re: called “camel jockey”.
I have been called “cracker”, and so far haven’t felt an impulse to wreak mayhem on my fellow human beings.
If there is documented evidence, I will change my tune. Until then, this family is lying.
When I was in high school, one of my classmates was of Lebanese Christian origin, and kids would call him "camel jockey" or the equivalent, but he never tried to kill any of us. I guess we didn't realize how lucky we were.
Prime example in the WH
ABC is just as much the enemy as any terrorist. Because ABC is trying to defeat the will of the American people by demoralizing the families of soldiers who first had to suffer the loss of their son or daughter and then hear them impugned on national TV as possible racists. There is very scant mention on ABC of the shooter shouting Allah Akbar. ABC did not do this on accident.
That's the best synopsis I've read so far.
We have to stop this PC agenda, which is the most lethal weapon against us as a free people... a weapon the obummer just strengthened with the new and enhanced 'hate crime bill.'
Our "enemies domestic" are in the WH
Truthfully, I won't be checking out ancestry.com anytime soon. My maternal grandfather was born in Scotland...by all accounts a good man.
My father's side is a bit more problematic...when they left the Isle of Man, they anglicized their last name, dropping the Mc.
I guess some things are better left undone...LOL!
We are no longer a Christian Nation... (only 77%
we are one of the largest Islamic nations in the world ( at 1/6th of one 10th %)
and did you ever hear this WHOLE clip from his muzzie mouth tearing the BIBLE apart? It was in 2006, before he was tapped to run - so wasn’t being careful about letting his views out.

We Do Not Consider Ourselves A Christian Nation

WHO is that WE you slimy traitor?
Because of names and harassment?
Riiiiight. White guys call each other a plethora of names in the military, often wiskey tango. White trash. I guess we all should have been killing each other over name calling a long time ago then.
Simply a lie. He’s an islamist jihadist terrorist. Period. Hang him.
Isn’t it common in the military to use every possible derogatory name, etc. to point out that no one is special, no one is better than anyone else- you’re all the same, miserable pukes who serve at the will of your commanding officer?
LOL!! It’s a name for Catholics!! The ROSARY! You must be YOUNG!
I’m pretty firmly infused with German blood so I guess I’m a kraut.
