Demand for Governor Palin's Salina Speech Overwhelms System
C4P ^ | November 6, 2009 | Doug Brady

Tickets sales have been extraordinary for Governor Palin's February trip to Kansas to deliver the keynote address to the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce. In fact, according to the Salina Journal, ticket sales have been suspended, at least temporarily, so they can sort through the systemic overload caused by the unprecedented demand:

Because of an overwhelming number of requests, the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce has suspended the sale of tickets to its annual dinner, which will feature former Alaska governor Sarah Palin.

"At this point, I am not saying that we're sold out," Chamber president and CEO Dennis Lauver said early Thursday afternoon. "If you've already called us or contacted us, either electronically or by phone, or stopped by our office, what we're asking is that you be patient and not initiate a new request at this time. We are processing those requests at this time."

Chamber officials have also -- at least temporarily -- quit taking phone, e-mail and walk-in requests for tickets to the Feb. 5 annual meeting, Lauver said.

Lauver said all 1,408 dinner seats have been spoken for. The chamber determined, including gallery seats, that they will have 4,000 seats available for the annual meeting. Once workers have processed the requests that have been made, he will know whether further ticket requests can be filled.

Lauver didn't know when the number of tickets to be made available would be established. He said chamber officials were meeting at the Bicentennial Center on Thursday afternoon to try to establish a seating scheme.

Lauver said a record number of ticket requests already had been received, and his office had been overwhelmed.

The previous record for ticket sales for a chamber annual meeting, he said, was about 1,500.

"We are at more than double that right now," he said.

Would the Salina organization experience equally high demand if, for example, Mitt Romney or Mike Huckabee were to address the group? Just asking...

Waiting for the RINOs and DemoRats to repeat their concern that the GOP must attract moderates because Sarah's Reagan Conservatism won't attract enough voters.Their concern for Republicans is underwhelming.

I see a pattern emerging (based on two data points!) in which Sarah Palin may be taking her message directly to the people, choosing smaller venues, rural areas etc over the big cities.

Conventional wisdom will call that “dumb” because she already has those folks in her court. But there’s a lot to be said about solidifying the base, and using these opportunities to create buzz and gain media attention. I’m sure it will be fascinating to watch her strategy unfold.

Wonder if this many would turn out if Kansas native Sec. of HHS Sebelius were to speak?

Speak the truth boldly.

Let the listener decide which side s/he wants to be on.

I love this “strategy”.

Whether Sarah is the second coming of Ronald Reagan, I know not - but she definitely is an articulate conservative. And after the experience of the Republican nomination of John McCain for the presidency last year, IMHO conservatives have to think long and hard about supporting any candidate other than last year's VP candidate. If we allow ourselves to be split, it could happen again.

2012 will be the centenary of the last time the Republican Party placed third in a presidential election (to Teddy Roosevelt), and if we can't nominate a conservative Republican we will vote for a conservative under a different banner.

because we've tried voting RINO, and we know it doesn't work.

If this story is any indication.I can see it now about a week to ten days in the North American Tour of “Going Rogue” will be scraped because of the size of the crowds. I do not think Harper Collins have any idea what the crowd size is going to be. I seen one stop had Sarah from 7-9 pm at some mall. Yea right 2 hrs is going to be enough time for all that show up. For Sarah’s sake I really, really hope it is not a PR FUBAR

In that case, I would hope to see at least that many outside protesting.

This is the sort of "irrelevancy" and "alienating moderates" that will put her in the White House in 2012...

Why is it always that pesky Palin causing things like this? I never read about systems overloading on account of demand to see Pawlenty, Romney, Huckabee, et al.
This Palin lady sure is annoying, isn't she?!

And yet the RINO/GOP leadership would have everyone believe that she has no political future and is wholly unelectable in 2012. Go figure!

Well don't quit using the other one (the lips) altogether. I appreciate our female Palin supporters injecting a little pizazz (for lack of a better word) into the stodgy GOP.
It's tastefully done and who will deny it's more attractive than the Huckabee Family-In-Striped-Shirts motif. :^)

Also, notice how most of the announced events are in states carried by 0bama, starting with Michigan, which she disagreed with McCain about abandoning. This is an intentional piece of psychological warfare aimed squarely at 0bama, showing him how popular she is in states he carried.
