Fort Hood, Texas (CNN) -- A civilian police officer who shot the Fort Hood gunman four times during his bloody rampage stopped the attacker cold, a U.S. Army official said Friday.
Officer Kimberly Munley of the Fort Hood Police Department is a "trained, active first responder" who acted quickly after she "just happened to encounter the gunman," said Lt. Gen. Robert Cone, Fort Hood's commanding general.

If most soldiers were allowed to carry weapons on base... this situation most likely would have been resolved before the police arrived. If the shooter knew that most soldiers were armed... he most likely would never have attempted this type of attack if he knew that he would be neutralized almost immediately.
I now use a Mac.
LOL! Except, of course, if you are writing for "mixed company" and the lefties redefine all the words.
Just shut up before you embarrass yourself any further.
Don't be a moron. He could have been shooting from a concealed position, from within a building or with his back and one side completely sheltered in the corner of buildings. The victims were lined up outdoors to get flu shots. They could have been mowed down in a split second.
No answer, huh?
What did the Army do right that makes you want to attack ME?
I can't even Imagine hot lead flying all over the place, me being unarmed and saying to myself .. I think that I'll just run on in and rush the mad man! Maybe in the movies but in Real Life? ... NAH!
I could not have said it better. Been there (Viet Nam) and have the tee shirts. I have a son-in-law in Iraq right now and it is hard to comprehend that those soldiers were returning or preparing and had this happen.
Thank you for your service!
OK, now you're getting somewhere in explaining your careless comments.
I'll never forget the picture of the fat cop at Virginia Tech hiding behind a tree.
To me, feeling "at home" means feeling safe and therefore having a weapon accessible when or if needed.
Let's hope that after this latest episode, the no guns allowed on base thing changes. There is no reason whatsoever that military personnel should not be allowed to conceal carry or even open carry on base.
We know what these Muslim pigs want to do to us. We knew last December when the Fort Dix plot was foiled. What the hell is the army thinking by NOT allowing military personnel to carry weapons for safety?
What a GAL!!!!
Has the model of pistol & caliber been disclosed?
Reports say he stood over some of them and shot them. The CO of Ft. Hood said he was very methodical in going from one to another.
Why would you call me a moron? Just because I feel differently about something, something that has a lot of explaining left to come out.
That is a non-reply. Your entire line of argument here seems to be "my memories of my Navy training are superior to the actual situation that happened on an Army base." Disgusting comments from someone who not only wasn't there, but who clearly lacks not only the complete transcript of the events, but any ability to visualize the situation. But please, don't let the door hit your ego on the way out of this discussion, sailor.
Just what makes you think that, because this was on a military base people, including military personnel, walk around with guns, let alone loaded guns?
I am not going to presume to know the details, but it looks like the Army might have arragned to have a pair of civilian police officers at this function for security.
We are so screwed as a country. When many of these young men are told to corral their parents, they will likely obey! I don't mind being reviled by those supporters of those innocent deaths. The US Army IS responsible.
Most weapons on military installations belong to the military and are kept in unit armories (or motor pools for armed vehicles). Personal weapons are not warn unless a CCW is applicable - the same as in public. Just because it’s a military base, that doesn’t mean people walk around armed to the teeth.
I’m going to go out on a limb here and guess that you really don’t much like the Army...
