Against Maine Gay Marriage Law Repeal
self

Posted on 11/04/2009 7:26:26 PM PST by indianrightwinger

It is too hard for me to swallow the fact that a properly passed law in Maine was repealed in a public referendum. This just seems wrong. The proper course of action was to throw out the bums who passed the law in the first place and then have a subsequent legislature / Governer repeal the law. While the "outcome" in this case was favorable to conservative point of view, it is impossible for me to see how it benefits the conservative movement in the long run. Remember, gay marriage was made legal in Maine by the elected government - NOT juducial fiat like in other cases. I am all for public referendums on judicial activist rulings that "make" law. Maine case is utterly different.

Connecticut does not. Every 4 years there is a ballot question “should the state convene a constitutional convention?” The homo-nazi’s were out in force in ‘08 to insure that answer was “No” to insure a pro-marriage amendement could not be proposed.

You’re absolutely wrong. Referendum is there to prevent abuse of power by elected representatives, giving the people a veto power over improper legislation.

If the law had gone into effect, the homosexuals would then argue they had a vested fundamental legal right that could not be repealed by a subsequent legislature.

The next step is to work to make sure all the responsible legislators will be filing for unemployment after the next election.

You’re correct. Of course, the Left (and liberal pubbies) have ALWAYS had a strong interest in more government control over other folks’ lives. This is just one more manifestation of it. I just wish that the statist faction that calls themselves “conservative” would wake up, but I guess it’s too much to ask. There are WAY too many who love telling others how to live their lives. Problem is, the ones doing the telling, left or right, are so plagued with their OWN problems, they can barely manage their own lives. Like Barney (I didn’t know he was a WHORE in my own house) Fwank. Or the late (or is it the not soon enough) Teddy “No Pants” Kennedy. Or a lot of FReepers. Or former drug czar and gambler/smoker Bill Bennett.
