WASHINGTON (AP) - In a coup for House Democrats, AARP will endorse sweeping health care overhaul legislation headed for a history-making floor vote, officials told The Associated Press on Wednesday.
An endorsement from the seniors' lobby was critical when then-President George W. Bush pushed the Medicare prescription drug benefit through a closely divided Congress in 2003. House Democratic leaders are hoping it will work the same political magic for them as they strive to deliver on President Barack Obama's signature issue.
An announcement from the 40-million member group is expected Thursday, said officials with knowledge of the group's decision. They spoke on condition of anonymity because the endorsement is not official yet.

They’ve spent millions promoting it on tv and to members. Is this a surprise?
this will kill AARP
Does this legislation have a sunset provision on it? I’m thinking if it passes and it does, then this would provide a lot of momentum our way...and relative time be gone. But I’m assuming it doesn’t, since who would extent this crap!?
And thus the meebership exodus continues....only more rapidly.....
meebership=membership
If seniors knew how much money was going to be taken out of Medicare, they’d flock out of AARP in unison.
Talk about your average group of clueless bastards.
There are some seniors who get it, but it’s my take many think the AARP has their best interests at heart and could do no wrong by them.
WRONG!
AARP wants more power. I say less is better...
AA(R)IP, another Soros front group is forced out of the thicket.
No, it does not. The taxes proposed in this bill, in particular, are expecially troubling precisely because they do not have "sunset provisions" and ARE NOT indexed for inflation. So, like the AMT, these new taxes will snare more and more people as inflation does its damage over time.
And most of those 40 million members will not realize that they, their children, and their grand-children are being screwed over by the money suckers at AARP. They blindly trust AARP. However, a larger group every day is catching on to the fact that AARP is an arm of the DNC.
I don’t understand how the initials AARP can stand for the word bullshit!?
Yesterdays mail there were forms for re upping our membership to the AARP, and encouraging words to assure us we must do so IMMEDIATELY.
We’ve never belonged to the AARP, never considered Joining the AARP, and most certainly today wouldn’t entertain the thought of joining period.
No surprise. The AARP is a very liberal lobby. Mostly Democrats.
This is only because the House version DOES NOT contain the $450 billion in cuts to Medicare that the Senate version will contain. The AARP is simply supporting the lesser of two evils in the hopes they can eliminate the cuts when the final bill comes out of the Conference Committee, that is if it comes out. After last night’s results I think Harry’s and Nancy’s hopes for a government run option may have just disappeared.
A gift to Rubio in Florida.
I keep throwing their invitations in the trash, along with the RNC donor requests.
I have no idea why the AARP would sign onto a bill that reduces medicare payments and guts their medicare plus coverage. Oh, except that it gives AARP an almost exclusive shot at selling supplemental insurance to seniors, which means possibly billions of dollars to the organization on the backs of seniors, without the AARP being held responsible.
it kills Medicare Advantage plans and steers business to AARP’s own Medigap insurance plans. Follow the money!
Tell the Seniors that Obamacare may not even be there for them, regardless of any actuary tables that emmulate “death panel” decisions.
Obamacare doesn’t go online until 2013, but they’ll be paying into it ‘now’.
Time to TP Aarp!!!!!
