Weve written about CNNs ratings drop in October, specifically in prime time.
Using another metric, it was made even more clear in the final week of October, CNN did not crack the top 30 cable networks in prime time.
For the first time in more than two years, CNN fell out of the top 30 cable channels last week in prime time (total viewers). Fox News ranked 3rd, behind USA and ESPN, while MSNBC was 26th. It was the 43rd consecutive week Fox News finished in the top 5 cable channels in prime time.
In total day, FNC was #5, CNN #27 and MSNBC #31.
CNN has pressed that prime time is just one of many metrics the network uses to measure audience data. And thats true. But seeing the network dip out of the top 30 for the first time in years is a telling sign something isnt working in prime time and its something that will have to be corrected to pull the network back into the top of the cable news, and general cable, ranks.
Well see what happens with last nights ratings CNN aired a largely election-focused prime time, even more so than FNC and MSNBC during the 8pmET hour. Will it translate to better ratings? Well find out in a few hours

Their motto for increasing viewership should be after the popular TLC program.....”18 and Counting”.
Hey ABB you want see something COLD
good.
Do ya think they’ll buy a clue?
I tried watching last night so i could see them cry in thier beer...and they are so out of touch I couldn’t watch it..What planet is Gergen from?????????????
Financially they must be bleeding to death. I remember that in ad revenue per/x viewers, they used to garner more than FNC, because of a more valuable demographic mix. But when you shrink this far it doesn’t mater what viewer composition you have.
The big question for their head offices should be....”Did we crack the top 100?”.
I will never ever ever forget Campbell Browns distorted face, when talking about Governor Palin...
Or Anderson calling the TEA Party goer’s teabaggers. (he would know what that means)
EVER.
Well, well. I don’t even know what most of those channels are.
And I notice that MTV is #29. That doesn’t break my heart, either.
CNN has gone completely ‘tabloid’.
Wow, I wonder which channels beat them out (besides Fox, of course)? CNN will eventually go the way of the newspapers—go out of business before you give up liberal advocacy.
CNN Response:
“Stupid Americans! You cannot understand our true brilliance! Bah!”
It is funny they get shellacked by SYFY.....
They would represent the perfect mouthpiece for that horrific dictatorship.
FX is the station with the bullet, with shows like "Sons of Anarchy". I can hardly wait for next week's 90 minute episode.
MSNBC heavily promoted late election coverage for last night and went to tape immiedately after prime time.
Hilarious. They cannot admit they lost big.
MSNBC is Obama’s poodle.
CNN is the DNC’s poodle.
They are getting beat by Toon, the Food Channel and HGTV, among others. Here is a link to the list:
