Ellen Tauscher had been winning consistantly with 2/3 of the vote, Garamendi won with 53%. A good showing for a Republican unfortunately not a win.

If he would have gotten a little help he might have done better. This is a lib district.

A few people there obviously are starting to realize that Lib Dem scum like Garamendi have destroyed CA in his “service” to the state over the past 25+ years.

Garamendi is a sleaze bag. Isn’t this district very close to San Francisco? Harmer did REALLY well considering!

If he had help from the GOP he might have done much better. They totally ignored Harmer.

Definitely, considering how close this is to SF.

We had over 400 volunteers at the Harmer HQ yesterday. We have not seen such an outpouring of support from people from inside and outside of the district in decades from what I understand. We had Republicans, Libertarians, Declined To State, Independents, and even several Democrats helping us make calls for David Harmer.
There was so much excitement there. We all left the office feeling quite good, and then got slammed when we went to the results watching party. There are 106,000 Republicans in this district. I am very disgusted with many of them because they are too LAZY to get off their duffs and vote. This election could have made such a statement. I know they will all sit on their couches now and complain, but if they had only crawled out and voted, it would be Harmer flying to Washington today to vote against the Health Bill. Disgusting.

53K out of 106K is indeed a poor showing. I wonder how many of those not voting have given up on the system altogether, regardless of who wins.

I worked the phones for Harmer the weekend before the election. Many of the people I reached said, “This is the FIFTH call I have received today.” I worried we were oversaturating the district. Apparently both Huckabee and Romney and who knows what other “independent” groups were also phoning Republicans. Also, I think the rolls need some cleaning up: many had moved; a number were elderly and perhaps not able to get out (although we offered help getting to the polls.)

A good showing for a Republican

Horseshoes and hand grenades.

Not elections.

53-43 is a decent showing.

Thanks for coming out from SF to help man the phones. It is true that many people were called over and over in the last few weeks. I know they were NOT called more than once from our office on that day.
As far as the lists needing to be cleaned up, that is the reason that we call as much as possible in the weeks leading up to the election. If we get a bad number, we eliminate it from our data base. We had lots and lots of volunteers on election day, but not enough volunteers in the weeks prior to the election, so we never got through all the names to clean up the lists. Election Day volunteers are great, but there is a very good reason why we need volunteers early in the campaign as well. Regardless, we are very appreciative of your help. It was a lot of fun that day, and people really enjoyed being part of this election I think.

Agreed. There are no spoils from a moral victory.

This is an impressive showing for a district where only 29% of the voters are registered Republicans and Obama won 65% of the vote.

Don’t forget to factor in the voter fraud that is always present in elections thanks to RATs and their accomplices. That would put this win at a higher percentage. We must organize now to expose their corruption before next November.
