City Controller Annise Parker is expected to face former City Attorney Gene Locke in a runoff to be the next mayor of Houston. Political pundits had long predicted that Parker, with her strong base of inside-the-loop support, was all but a shoo-in for the runoff. Parker herself had felt just as confident, and with more than 90 percent of the precincts reporting, her confidence appeared justified.

I was really hoping Morales would pull an upset.

Parker is less liberal than Locke, so I suppose it's down to the lesser of two evils...

Morales has his handed to him this evening.

I imagine Parker will win the runoff unless the churches go after her for being a lesbian.

Top 3 rat getters were all rats. The only Republican (and Latino) in the race came in 4th with 20%.

Orlando Sanchez (R) almost winning in 2001 seems like a lifetime ago for Houston. I still remember waiting for the returns to come in on that one.

If I lived there I’d be tempted for the runoff to send in a blank ballot smeared with dog doo.
