She was not acceptable - otherwise there would not have been a conservative challenge. She was already losing to Owens before Palin endorsed Hoffman. Also Hoffman was already getting significant support (more than 20% I believe) before Palin endorsed him. So, that should put to bed any idea that Scozzafava was acceptable to this district. Once again this should have been settled by a primary election which would have allowed the GOP to unify around an acceptable candidate. What caused this problem was that the candidate was picked by party bosses in a smoke filled room.
