ALBANY, N.Y. - Democrat Bill Owens had an early lead in a special Congressional election in northern New York that grabbed national headlines in its final days as it highlighted divisions within the Republican Party.
Owens led with 51.4 percent to 43.7 percent for Doug Hoffman, a member of New York's Conservative Party, with just 29 percent of precincts reporting in New York's 23rd House district.

Whether Hoffman wins or loses - this is a ‘one year’ election. The campaign for 2010 election starts TOMORROW!! - and there won’t be any SCUZZBAGFAVA on the Republican ticket this time!
CD-23 better be replacing some county chairs like yesterday that gave her the nomination that began this whole mess.
Rove said it was going to take overnight for some of the most conservative districts to report. So we’ll just have to wait and see.
Breaking News 11000 absentee ballots in NY23 will NOT BE COUNTED TONIGHT.. Go Fort Drum!!!
where did you hear that? That will decide the race.
Still too close to call.
Point out to the Republican leaders that had Scuzzy the RINO given her support to the Conservative, who would have voted with the Republican, instead of to the Democrat, who will vote with the Democrats, then the Republicans still would have won.
RINOs are false friends. They may support you over small things, but when the chips are down, or it’s a really important vote, they will stick it to you every time.
It’s better to have an enemy you know in front of you with a sword, than a traitor behind you with a dagger.
Left-wing MSM will spin this as a defeat for current Republican standard-bearer: Sarah Palin. Therein lies the unfortunate perception of this loss in a strongly Republican district since Sarah lashed her mast onto the sails of Hoffman.
With 84% precincts now reporting it is 49(D) v 46(R)
Unfortunately the ballots may pre-date Hoffman and thereby have a lot of votes for The Skuz.
Either way... the GOP leadership in this area has to go. What were they thinking when they nominated a lib?!
To paraphrase Patton: I'd rather have a Rat division in front of me than a RINO division behind me.
Please..if Hoffman loses, it will be a blow to Palin..you can’t have it both ways...she’ll recover..there was more in play here...but she got involved and she has to take the hits. She’s a big girl, she can take it.
“Either way... the GOP leadership in this area has to go”
The National GOP Rubber Stamped, Supported and Funded DeDe to the Tune of $900,000..
A what did that support and funding buy>
An endorsement for the Democrat Owens.
HEADS MUST ROLL!!!!!!!
This is the Palin race. I hope Hoffman pulls it out. Congrats to Mitt in VA campaigning and Guiliani who was in NJ.
Hopinbg Fred and Sarah can have the same impact.
The person Palin came out against, had to suspend her campaign, and is hovering around 5%. Not a blow.
Gettin' a little exited there aren't you, hillbilly...
LOL! and a big grin.
And it may be that bashing Palin worked.
She is passionately loved, but her negatives are very, very high.
She needs to get her negatives down or she can't be the nominee.
