An early voting report from Virginia's 1st Congressional District, epicenter for today's expected GOP tsunami in the Old Dominion.
I reside in York County, not far from Fort Eustis and the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center. The district is heavily Republican; John McCain got more than 60% of the vote here last year.
Polls open in Virginia at 6 a.m. I arrived at my voting place (a local elementary school) at 6:45. The parking lot was 80% full at that hour, and more cars were arriving by the minute. The level activity seemed comparable to what I saw during the most recent presidential election, although I voted later in the day in 2008.
Outside the precinct, the GOP had two pollworkers passing our sample Republican ballots. Demand was heavy; by comparison, the Democrats had just one representative handing out their sample ballots. With the exception of a few African-American voters, there were virtally no takers.
Inside the polling place, there were 20 people ahead of me in line. However, the ballot is short (governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general and one race for the House of Delegates), so the line moved quickly. I was out the door at 6:50 a.m. and by that time, almost 200 people had voted at this particular precinct.
Outside the school, signs for the Republican team (Bob McDonnell, Bill Bolling and Ken Cuccinelli) outnumbered those for the Democratic candidates by at least an 8-1 margin. However, this is a solidly Republican district, so you'd expect to see that sort of advantage for the GOP.
For all FReepers in VA: you know your mission for today. Get out and vote, and put the Old Dominion back in the GOP column. And while you're at it, say a prayer for Chris Christie and Doug Hoffman.
Youre a democratic troll.
I take that to mean that you approve of liberal Republicans. Clearly you are a dip and don’t understand what is going on in New York. I guess you can just keep praying that the RINOs get elected. So if being a Democratic Troll means that I am against a Republican liberal that purly does not makes any sense. Go back to bed. You seriously need to get some principles. I pray for your soul as clearly you are not going upstairs if you approve of a guy who does not approve of the 2nd Amendment.
Why because I don’t want a social republican winning...lol. You make me laugh.
Funny coming from a defender of a party that nominates people like Dierdre Scozzafava, and pours a million bucks of conservatives' money into promoting them and trashing a conservative.
What a tired old canard.
Half of NJ moved there. Unfortunately, the libs take their rat politics with them.
Webb is 2012 and Warner was just elected so he is 2014.
I get it but he is not even for 2nd Amendment. How far away from principles did FREEPERS go. It seems so sad that we have become so much more about wins than getting the right people into office. I feel for our country when even the 2nd Amendment is not taken seriously. He is worse on social issues than 90 percent of the party with the exception of FREEPERS who approve of him....Scary!!!
At the bennett precinct in pwc, we were 71/72 for the N-Z, at a little after 7am.
We had two republican workers, and the democrat was our resident moonbat, who is there all the time, but she didn’t seem to enthused this year, although she did give me a fist-bump.
Get back with me after the Nov 2010 with a spread sheet showing how well your third party candidates did, how many got elected.
Let us know how your third-party candidate, Dede Scozzafava, does today in NY-23.
Ha Ha Ha
You da’ funny man.
Hey Mr Third party get back with me after Nov 2010.
You’re stuttering.
My precinct in NOVA is heavily D too. There were 3 McDonnell campaign workers there and no Rat volunteers. Turnout was low but those coming to the polls were taking GOP sample ballots.
I agree. IIRC, it was Limbaugh who made the point that the Hoffman/Scozzafava fight was the GOP primary that should have been, but wasn't because the "leadership" in DC and the district decided to hand pick her over the wishes of the conservative majority in the district's GOP.
In most cases, third parties and independent candidates exist as foils to help Democrats get elected. In the case of Hoffman, it's different, since he would have been the GOP candidate had the people themselves actually had a say.
PB570, check out EV's profile - he has a vested interest, beyond mere ideology, in pushing for third parties - especially HIS third party. He's the "founder and chairman" of yet another ego-driven vote drain, so he's working his meal ticket.
Following....
Its the same in the Democrat precinct in Manassas with GOP voters showing up 5-1.
I voted in Northern VA this morning
At about 9 am I was voter number 94 at my precinct. There was no Democrat ballot passer.
Its going to be a good night in VA :)
More projection from the “GOP uber alles” crowd.
We really need Hoffman to pull this baby out, because if he loses we’ll never hear the end of the sanctimonious lectures from the Michael Steeles and Newt Gingriches of the world.
