When I see those in government, both locally and in Washington, spend and tax and come up each day with new ways to spend and tax—health care, cap and trade, etc.—I think: Why aren't they worried about the impact of what they're doing? Why do they think America is so strong it can take endless abuse?

I think I know part of the answer. It is that they've never seen things go dark. They came of age during the great abundance, circa 1980-2008 (or 1950-2008, take your pick), and they don't have the habit of worry. They talk about their "concerns"—they're big on that word. But they're not really concerned. They think America is the goose that lays the golden egg. Why not? She laid it in their laps. She laid it in grandpa's lap.

They don't feel anxious, because they never had anything to be anxious about. They grew up in an America surrounded by phrases—"strongest nation in the world," "indispensable nation," "unipolar power," "highest standard of living"—and are not bright enough, or serious enough, to imagine that they can damage that, hurt it, even fatally.

We are governed at all levels by America's luckiest children, sons and daughters of the abundance, and they call themselves optimists but they're not optimists—they're unimaginative. They don't have faith, they've just never been foreclosed on. They are stupid and they are callous, and they don't mind it when people become disheartened. They don't even notice.

Isn't that what Peggy voted for a year ago??

Ah, but that is exactly what they are trying to do!

You're so brilliant you snob. You supported "the Messiah" over Sarah Palin.

Why don't you shut up and stop pretending you're a prophetess?

That is because, amongst themselves, in their halls, and parlours when they caucus and plot, in their conference calls, at the Starbucks near Capitol Hill or the White House with their government ID badges proudly swinging from their necks so as to show off to tourists just in from flyover country, in meeting rooms and in their Oval Offices, there isnt a single, honest person who stands up and says, in a loud voice, "Hey, now wait just a damned second! Why this is The PEOPLE'S money we are talking about here. Do we really NEED this STUFF!?"

Liberals JUST DO NOT OPERATE THIS WAY in organizations, especially government. I have seen it from the inside.

You only generally hear these objections within Conservative power settings. Ronald Reagan comes to mind as someone who would say this often and unabashedly.

Herein lies our problem. They are no different than our colonial masters in Great Britain who lorded it over us from London. And look what eventually happened to THEM!

OK, I took the time to read the entire column.

I think Peggy had a personal meeting with Nancy Pelosi, and while not naming her, wrote this article about her.

Peggy is just standing there, figuratively, blinking her eyes in disbelief that anyone in power could be that stupid, out of touch, blind and obtuse.

Is Peggy not one of the “luckies?” She sounds “real top drawer.”

Wait a minute - she had tried to destroy everyone that she is saying gets it. She has tried to get rid of Palin, and every other “radical” Republican.

It is ms. Noonan that is one of those children - it is conservatives that understand it.

“Americans are starting to think the problems we are facing cannot be solved.”

HA - Just the Rinos which should be called RHINOS. Republican hamsters in name only.

They are like hamsters that have been enticed to get on the little exercise wheel and they are going round and round and haven’t found a way to get off.

What’s changed to dishearten lil peggy? Might it be the mood of the conservatives? Might it be that lil peggy sees the writing on the wall that her “Party” might be ready to implode? Might it be that she had no core values except loyalty to A party and therefore is adrift?
Might it be that in the era of Obama Peggy has no place to call home? The party is about as powerful as a kleenex in a gale wind storm and the liberals won’t give her the time of day. If she doesn’t go right she will be forever irrelevent.

The only Americans that think no one can solve the problems are people like Peggy.

The conservatives know that our problems will become greater not smaller if the liberals have their way. That we must go back to the the core principals of conservatism in order to save our Nation.

The liberals all think that if we just take more freedoms spend more money and pass more regulations we will have a great nation. These same liberals made their money and came to power because of conservatism not in spite of it.

Ahhh...Peg, which way is the wind blowing today?

I have to wonder about Peggy and her professional thought processes. She comes close to being rational here, yet sounded like she was spending way too much time with her obama shower massager all last election. This is what she wanted. Is she too stupid not to have seen this coming?

She reminds me of lawyers/politicians whose belief system is merely to argue for whatever side they are hired for at the moment. She could plead your case in the morning, then switch sides in the afternoon.

I suppose an editor is telling her which perspective to write, but I think she is using her column as a way to be invited to the best parties or feel popular. Whatever. She has no convictions, just hormonal opinions and a knack for knowing which way the wind is blowing.

No, we are governed by evil individuals who are being portrayed as children by some.

Make no mistake, they know exactly what they are doing, and why they are diong it.

I have no idea why this woman is nationally syndicated.

She is not real bright and her writing is froth.

Not to mention that her political leanings change with the wind.
