When a political party is out of the White House and in the minority on Capitol Hill, it's time for licking wounds. But it's also time to think ahead to who the next leaders of the Republican Party will be.
Some of the main Republican contenders Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty are well-known. Others, like Florida Rep. Marco Rubio, aren't.
Rubio, a conservative outsider and former speaker of the state House, is challenging former Gov. Charlie Crist for the Republican U.S. Senate nomination. There's an open seat next year because of Sen. Mel Martinez's surprise retirement.
Known Among Conservative Republicans
Two weeks ago, Rubio spoke at a luncheon of the Conservative Women's Movement at a recreation center in The Villages, the largest residential development in Florida that lies between Orlando and Gainesville.

I have said it innumerable times on FR, but I’ll say it again: Charlie Crist will never ever ever ever ever EVER get my vote again.
Ever.
I don’t care if SATAN is on the ticket against him. I won’t vote for SATAN, but at least with SATAN, I know where he stands. Crist is a turncoat.
Same reason I respect Dennis Kucinich more than Hussein. Dennis is a kooky liberal, but he plays it straight. Hussein hid his agenda with a compliant press.
But I digress.
Charlie, drop out of the race.
Marco is the real deal. Please support him in any way that you can.
I am with you. If Charlie is the candidate, I am not voting for him.
Marco is speaking to the South Pinellas 912 group Saturday and I’m going to be taking videos and posting them. We had the Constitution Party candidate in a couple of weeks ago. I will vote for Marco if he gets the Republican nomination. If not, the Constitution Party candidate. I can’t vote for Crist, especially after him signing on to the cigarette excise tax and hugging Obambi and continuing to talk up the porkulus bill. No thanks.
Sent Marco $25 from here in Oregon today...not much...but hope every little bit helps...
Viva Rubio. I’ll have to send some cash his way.
"But most Florida Republican Party officials are against him. They see him as talented, but ambitious. And they see him as overly critical of Crist for welcoming federal stimulus funds, for example... One South Florida consultant faults Rubio for not helping Sen. John McCain's campaign last year, when the GOP presidential candidate lost Florida...but the county chairman wondered whether Rubio, describing himself as the real conservative, might attract fewer moderates and provide shorter coattails down-ticket."
Thanks much. We need more Marcos and less McCains.
Charlie,
Drop out now before you lose.
I sent Rubio $20 last Friday.
If you put him and limp wrested Crist in a sack I don't know who would fall out first.
