WASHINGTON – What's all the fuss about? After all the noise over Democrats' push for a government insurance plan to compete with private carriers, coverage numbers are finally in: Two percent.

That's the estimated share of Americans younger than 65 who'd sign up for the public option plan under the health care bill that Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., is steering toward House approval.

The underwhelming statistic is raising questions about whether the government plan will be the iron-fisted competitor that private insurers warn will shut them down or a niche operator that becomes a haven for patients with health insurance horror stories.

Some experts are wondering if lawmakers have wasted too much time arguing about the public plan, giving short shrift to basics such as ensuring that new coverage will be affordable.

Hey....what's the big deal about another Ponzi Scheme when government runs it?

My brother works at a Michigan hospital (non profit hospitals are the rule in Michigan) and took the time to read the first 1000 page bill (with help from his staff) and went ballistic over the attempts to subsidize health care for just about anyone who showed up at the door, foreign or domestic. He found that as a taxpayer and provider he'd foot the bills through taxation on a reduced salary and a reduced benefits package and the hospital would receive payments from Washington at their rate adjustments schedule and their convenience. That was in the first couple hundred pages but some of the proposals s were supposedly deleted or rewritten due to popular dissent.

Now there's another 900 pages to provide erudition and obfuscation of the bill's intent which is the same thing the original bill proposed.

It was barely readable the first time but the libs fixed that this time. It's totally unreadable.

Something's not right, here. TWO percent of the population? Yet all that fuss for months & months & months?

Better "follow the money" and see what's really up with all the time & energy expended on this.

Hypothetically speaking, IF they had actually been serious about their "must-have" public option, wouldn't they have simply changed the age restrictions on medicare - say instead of 65, anyone over the age of 50 could apply --- and surely that would be more that TWO percent of Americans, and why are they trying to re-create the wheel when they could do something EASY like this -- IF that were the goal?

I expect there's alot more to this story. I'm suspicious about what "health care reform" really means.

Last figure I heard cited for this boondoggle was around $1.2 Trillion. +/- a few billions.

Suffice to say that number's added TO all other governmental operating expenses composed of prOOOOOgrAAAAms, military et al ad nauseum and makes a mighty big number equaling *our* debt.

Our government borrows next year's budget estimate, correct? Not unlike any large or small business gets a line of credit?

IF it is correct, from whom would our government loan such an enormous amount of dough plus interest?
