With Democrats poised to lose the governor's race in Virginia, and to possibly lose the governor's race in New Jersey and a special election for a House seat in New York, the White House has started insisting any pending losses will not have any significance.
"Whatever the results are I don't think they portend a lot in dealing with the future," White House press secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters on Friday, pointing to the fact that Democrats won the Virginia and New Jersey governors' races in 2001 despite a very popular President Bush, with Republicans picking up seats in Congress in 2002.
"I think we continue to take the long view on what's going on in Washington and throughout the country," Gibbs said.
President Obama will appear at campaign rallies in New Jersey Sunday to help the struggling and unpopular incumbent governor, Jon Corzine, who polls show is in a statistical dead heat with the Republican nominee, former U.S. Attorney Chris Christie.
On Monday, Vice President Joe Biden will appear at a campaign rally in Watertown, NY, to help the Democratic candidate in the special election for that New York House seat, Bill Owens, who is in a tight race with Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman.

Well they’ll lose Virginia. The New York 23rd is not so much a loss as a Republican retention. And I think they’ll keep New Jersey. So it’ll be a net loss of one office that they haven’t had a chance of keeping for some time now.
Good points. I have been of the mind for some time, that Obama was doing so much campaigning that he and that party are well aware that the shellacking is coming in November despite their denials. He is trying to keep on top of it, which is fine, it will make him look like a loser when it comes to campaigning for others. Which will only further increase the trepidations of the Blue Dogs.
Obama is a one timer for sure.

Let's just pray that he's wrong because real Americans are rejecting socialism and not right because this will be the last free election in our couintry. I worry about Obama's ability to find or create a crisis as needed, always one that requires him to expand his power "for the duration of the energency".

I was just listening to Carl Cameron (Fox News) discussing all the “prominent Republicans” who have come out to endorse Hoffman. The one name he didn’t mention - and this frosted my flakes - was Sarah Palin! He mentioned Tim Pawlenty as if he was the first! The fact is, they all were playing follow the leader and the leader was Sarah!
