Michael Steele: Doug Hoffman win is a GOP win
Politico ^ | 30 October 2009 | Andy Barr

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele said Friday that a victory by Doug Hoffman, the third-party candidate in the Nov. 3 New York special election, is a win for the GOP.

“You’ve got two Republicans running in that race. My upside is that one of them will likely win,” Steele said. “We want to be supporting the one that wins.”

Wow. Steele just qualified for a chapter in “Profiles in Cowardice,” coming in at the 11th hour when a Hoffman win is all but certain to declare his support.

Got a chapter reserved for Newt, too.

Look we are against RINO’s in the Republican Party....The Republican Party is being restored back to the Party of Conservative beliefs, but if you think by destroying the Republican party is winning...you are wrong....because it will be confused with Independent and other third parties...who will get funding to run and split votes. Dems will be in charge forever....We just need Republican with Republican values....dont throw out the baby with the bath water...

I like Steele...and if you would stop for awhile and hear what he has to say...you may find he is a good leader and one that will be good for our party!

We are stuck with Steele as long as the Republican party decides he is there.

As long as we (not me) keep sending money to the Republican National Committee they will keep people like Steele in power.

I wasn't saying that Steele is a bad guy or that I don't appreciate the difficulty of his position. However, rather than attempting to hijack Hoffman's victory as a Republican victory, why not try being honest for a change and saying the RNC backed the wrong candidate and they will be considering the conservative values of future candidates Or anything of that nature. His response is BS because we all know the RNC is shaking in their boots and thinking that this could be the death toll of the Republican Party if they don't conduct some serious damage control and do it in a hurry.

I’m not quite sure who you are referring to, but if it is Hoffman, he indeed is a Republican. If he doesn’t win this special election, he will run in the next primary as a Republican. He will go on to win the seat :-)

Right, and we just need to go to the next meeting of the RNC and do what we did at the socialist's Town Halls.

The country club DC washingtonian SOB's running the RNC need to be run out of town on a rail.

They are every bit as dangerous as the marxists.

He ran against the RNC backed Republican candidate. It doesn’t matter what he IS but how he RAN. This flies in the face of conventional wisdom by splitting the Republican vote and giving the Democrat the win. By doing so and beating both the Republican and Democrat candidate fires a shot across the bow of both parties.

Steele is incompetent No slack for him, he and his country club buddies

If Michael Steele belongs to a country club, it's only been since he's become head of the RNC. He comes from a working class background. IIRC his mother cleaned for a living.

He is an example of the Peter Principle, unfortunately. He's both in over his head and that same head seems to be swimming with the lofty parties he now gets invited to. He was a terrific guy as head of the Republican Party in Maryland. I didn't think he was savvy enough to head the RNC and he isn't.

I can understand that as a national-level leader, he didn’t want to look authoritarian by vetoing the district-level decision right away. However, he should have evaluated Dede’s position on issues, and decided whether she deserved to be helped or not. He could have either witheld or directed that any money from national level could go only to attack Owens. Instead, he let them attack Hoffman. Now, Steele looks totally stupid for embracing Hoffman’s possible win.

Michael Steele is a social liberal who promotes social liberals and therefor Michael Steele is bad for social conservatives.

Michael Steele is many things, but a social liberal is not one of them.
