“Coalition” is the way the left is currently overturning the electoral process and getting its people into power no matter what. Obama and his minions managed to do this in Kenya, where Obama’s Muslim Marxist cousin lost the election (even after leading his supporters in bloody mayhem throughout the country) but then charged fraud and used the threat of more violence to force Kenya to install him as a sort of “co-president,” even though there is no provision in the Kenyan constitution for this type of thing.
Obama has pushed for the same thing (a “coalition government”) in Afghanistan, where he is for some reason very eager to install Abdullah Abdullah, even though the latter lost the election and there is no provision for “coalitions” in Afghan law.
Hmm, that’s an interesting pattern. Obama and his ulterior motives. I wonder if even the people close to him really know what goes on in his head.
Yeah, that’s how it looks to me too.
I’ve been getting those emails too but my Spanish is so rusty that I can only pick up a few bits and pieces.
Why are some of the posters on this thread upset?
The only reasonable interpretation of this agreement is that Obama caved in to the patriots in Honduras. Their Congress and Supreme Court are never going to permit Zelaya to return to power; not for even one day.
This is nothing more than an attempt by Obama to look like a statesman. The fact is the people of Honduras told Obama to FO and Obama realized he got bitch-slapped and tried to find a way safe a little bit of his dignity.
Can you post the email address to subscribe? My Spanish is pretty weak too, but it’s worth trying.
Thanks for that post Rome2000.
What am I missing from this? To me, this reads like an agreement for both sides to abide by the outcome of a vote that the Honduran Congress has yet to make. The vote will take place after Congress gets an opinion from the Supreme Court. Congress could easily say that Zelaya is still out and even that he should be prosecuted, and he has agreed to abide by the vote.
Yes, I understand he could be reinstated also, and Micheletti has also agreed to abide, but if I were a betting man...
Am I missing something?
Let the real coup begin.
As soon as he is put back into office the Cuban and Venezuela “Peacekeepers” will arrive to “restore” order.
Term ends in January. Could have lots of Venezuela and Cuba troops there by then.
The US State Department has forced Honduras to make an extra-Constitutional agreement.
Zelaya was rightfully removed from office and the VP took over the position, consistent with the Honduran Constitution. Anything else is outside the Honduran Constitution. There is no provision in the Honduran Constitution for a coalition government.
The likely outcome is that Zelaya will never see political power again, and elections will take place as scheduled. However, there is LOTS of room for interference from outside parties.
I don’t like this at all.
That’s a shame about the rustiness of your Spanish, because those e-mails from the Honduran government have been very informative.
Zelaya says he won't run for reelection and therefore is not violating the constitution and reclaims the presidency but then still has 2 months to loot the treasury of Honduras.
“We have a criminal as potus!”
The Obama threat must have cut deep. The Honduran government withstood threats, and financial deprivation and was still holding steady. No Obama and Chavez will send their thugs in to steal the upcoming election.
“As soon as he is put back into office the Cuban and Venezuela Peacekeepers(and Obama thugs) will arrive to restore order.
Minor change ;-)
I hope your analysis is the correct one, but I’ve learned to expect duplicity and betrayal in all affairs of state.
It won’t seem minor when they start arresting and killing people.
This may have merely been a saving face concession for Zelaya’s benefit, courtesy of our own Usurper. We’ll have to wait and see how it all plays out.
I hope that as part of this deal, Honduras gets ALL the US aid it is supposed to get- this is one case where I WANT U.S. foreign aid to go to its intended beneficiary.
I hope you are right and thats the way things will work out. The US & OAS response to this this thing has been beyond weird. It seems that all the heads of states view the removal of any one them as a threat to all of them. Just cause is not a factor for them.
Aid yes, but I have a feeling it will be doled out piecemeal, as a carrot.
