Minutes before the signing of the agreement, President Roberto Micheletti announced its authorization to sign the document ending the political crisis facing the country since last June 28. "Tonight I am pleased to announce that a few minutes ago I authorized my negotiating team to sign a final agreement that marks the beginning of the end of the political situation", whereby the return of Manuel Zelaya will be decided by Congress after consulting Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ).

Why are some of the posters on this thread upset?

The only reasonable interpretation of this agreement is that Obama caved in to the patriots in Honduras. Their Congress and Supreme Court are never going to permit Zelaya to return to power; not for even one day.

This is nothing more than an attempt by Obama to look like a statesman. The fact is the people of Honduras told Obama to FO and Obama realized he got bitch-slapped and tried to find a way safe a little bit of his dignity.

I hope your analysis is the correct one, but I’ve learned to expect duplicity and betrayal in all affairs of state.
