BREAKING: Pataki Endorses Hoffman CONFIRMED

I am told reliably, but have not yet confirmed, that Governor George Pataki endorsed Doug Hoffman tonight at a Conservative Party event.

As Matt Drudge would say: Developing . . .

If this is so, this is huge. Pataki routinely won NY-23 by huge margins. He remains quite popular up there.

UPDATE: IT IS CONFIRMED. Gov. George Pataki has endorsed Doug Hoffman for the United States Congress.

Pataki’s statement:

Statement from Governor George E. Pataki

As someone personally engaged in the way of life in the Adirondacks and Northern New York, I’m deeply concerned about the course of our nation and the outcome of the election in the 23rd Congressional District.

Simply put, we cannot afford to give another vote to Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid we cannot afford another vote for higher taxes, we cannot afford another vote for government run health care and we absolutely cannot afford another vote to take away from hard working men and women the right to secret ballot.

That is why tonight, I’m proud to endorse Doug Hoffman, a Republican, running on the Conservative line for Congress in the 23rd Congressional District.

Doug Hoffman will stand up to Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. He will fight for all the residents of northern New York. He will fight for our proud servicemen and women at Fort Drum, our dairy farmers in Lowville and our manufacturers in Plattsburgh.

As a businessman, and as a life-long resident of the North Country Doug Hoffman understands the need to lower taxes on working families, the need to stand tall against terror and he won’t back phony stimulus programs that fail to create the jobs we need and leaves a mountain of debt to our children.

When elected to Congress Doug will work to reduce our taxes, he will stand tall against those who despise our freedoms and he will be a vigilant stalwart against those who would substitute government programs for individual initiative.

And Doug Hoffman can win.

I urge all the voters of the 23rd Congressional District – Republican Democrat, Independent and Conservative to come out and vote for Doug Hoffman for Congress.

Scozzifava is in big trouble. Among New Yorkers, Pataki was felt to be the last good governor, before Spitzer and Paterson came on the scene.

Wahoo! Way to go Doug!

We must support and elect constitutional candidates whom we know beforehand will take their oath to the constitution seriously and fufill that oath, and who are committed wholly to stand on and support constitutional principle.

When WE, the citizens and voters of this nation insist on that course of action ourselves, in large numbers, we will inact change.

That is what is happening with Sarah, Pataki, and others who are supporting Hoffman...and it is what MUST happen with each of us. It will force the GOP back to the constitution, and back to its own platform for Heaven's sake.

When we do, the right candidates and the right parties will rise to the top like cream rises to the top of fresh milk because we will have insisted and forced it to be so.

The FR alliance:

RESTORE THE CONSTITUTION EFFORT

which is an FR Alliance web site, is about precisely that. Please join us, and a lot of other FREEPERS there, as we work together and identify and support candidates dedicated to doing precisely that at all levels.

This is good to keep the momentum rolling for Doug. Dede must be wondering what has hit her. Two weeks ago she was king of the hill. Now she is at the bottom looking up.

This is huge. Huge because

1 He’s a New Yorker

2. He’s very popular in that district.

There are rumors that former Senator D’Amato will endorse Hoffman as well. If true, then Scozzafava is finished. I mean when you have establishment Republicans like Pataki endorsing you, you might as well hang it up because those so-called moderates are going to vote for HOFFMAN. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if Scozzafava abruptly withdrew from the race sometime Friday and angrily blame the “right-wing” for doing so. Any way you look at it, Hoffman has it in the bag. Scozzafava is not going to get the liberal votes (many of them are demoralized) and she sure as Hell ain’t getting conservatives to support her.
