You can be upfront to Romney about not having supported his presidential candidacy in 2008, and that while you haven’t decided on who to support in 2012 that you would likely support someone more conservative than him in the primary, and say that you would understand if he doesn’t want to endorse you but that in such a tough general election you could use the help of all Republicans.
