But how can "the smartest guy in the room", with a reputation as a scholar and seeker of truth have been so easily misled about a set of facts that could be discerned with half an hour's worth of phone calls?" It's easy to be misled when you want to be misled.

Newts been too busy hawking his books to do his homework. Somebody fed him a line of crap and he bought it. I heard him just the other night say he just “RECENTLY heard about the Rasmussen Presidential Poll that survey strongly favorable and strongly unfavorable”. If that is the case, he’s really out of touch.

Michael Steele on Hannity radio yesterday kept saying that Scuzzafava(?) was chosen by the Repubs in the district in a primary.
Someone who knows - please tell us - was she chosen by a primary or not?

they turned him into a Newt and he didn't get better.

Newt lost any and all his trust when he decided to sit on the couch with Nancy and espouse global warming lies.
He is history.
We will remember 1994, but not the Newt since he retired from Congress.

I don’t necessarily question his integrity, I question is political acumen. How could he misread the mood of the people whose votes he needs so badly.

Hey Newt, kindly go to pasture with your buddy McCain. I used to like you. Now I loath you. Just another stinking weak-spined GOP Socialist Lite sell-out...

The very same old GOP old hands opted for insider Jim Tedisco over Betty Little in that race and Tedisco got beaten, hindsight suggested Little would have won hands down. And, interesting enough, up pops Tom Reynolds to comment, again. It's argued that instead of any genuine insight into politics on the ground these days, they didn't want to repeat the Tedisco mistake, judged it based upon purely out-dated male/female lines and were going to go with a female no matter what. Some national GOP types apparently just had to have a woman run for the NY - 23 seat. That's a serious problem for the GOP now, lunkheads in DC who think along the lines of identity politics, and look for groups they can pander to for votes. Those sorts need to be purged from any leadership roles because they are severely damaging the party.

Gingrich is an arrogant narcissist who failed in his role as Speaker of the House because he made everything all about him. He now appears with Pelosi and Sharpton to push the leftist agenda in hopes it will make him popular with the MSM. He is an attention whore who needs people to notice him no matter what problems he creates.

His constant repetition of the false "she's locally selected" mantra seems as off message as Scozzafava's numerous well documented campaign missteps." The writer nailed it. I watched and listened to Newt repeat this to laura Ingraham and Fox morning shows. I scratched my head wondering wahy Newt wouldn't have checked his facts and why wouldn't be so stubborn not to correct his error and poor choice. I'm left believing that he knew he was selling out thousands of conservative grassroots activists and normal everyday folks and instead siding witt 7 old white GOP chairmen who unilaterally selected Dede. Why? Does Newt think that's how he gets their endorsement for President in 2012? Even so, he'll fail like Rudy did. Conclusion: Newt has lost the ability to make good decisions and display good judgement.
