A wealthy woman who poisoned her neighbour's Abyssinian cats with tuna laced with anti-freeze has been ordered to pay £1,500 in compensation to the distraught owner.
Katherine Hall, 57, put the deadly tins of tuna in her garden to stop Nush and Mr Baz urinating on her strawberries.
The court heard that the five-and-a-half year old cats died in agony a few days later.
When police searched Hall's garden they found remnants of the deadly meal, and a cat-scaring machine.
Owner Andrew Boyd said it was a 'disgrace' that Hall did not receive a harsher punishment.
'I don't want to see anyone going to jail, but she should have been banned from having animals, and given community service at least,' he said.

If some cat, or any other animal, was coming around and peeing in my food garden I wouldn’t kill it. I would keep pinging it with a BB until it decided it didn’t want to come around any more.
My folks tried have a garden and set live traps as well but another “good Samaritan” took the cat and the trap...The cat came back, but the expensive trap did not.
Unfortunately that will get you in as much trouble as killing it. Plus I think bb guns are banned in the UK.
Are you saying you grow strawberries? There is a difference in raising the plants and going to a berry farm and picking them. I spray repellent around the perimeter of my strawberry beds just to keep the critters OUT.
I too make strawberry jams and jelly, but have never entered them in any contests.
And thats why people do what this lady did.
if you love your cat you should keep it under control. Bad things happen out in the wild and dangerous world.
That may be one of the reasons I don’t live there
A pet coyote will solve the problem. To them, a little kitty is just a light snack.
One couple up the street has a convertable top car. The poor little kitties like to sharpen their claws on the top.
Owner Andrew Boyd said it was a ‘disgrace’ that Hall did not receive a harsher punishment
Maybe if the owner would keep her precious cats in her house and not running all over others property they would still be alive. She is just as guilty as the killer.
We have people here complaining about coyote's killing their cats and they want something done about the coyote's.Stupid people keep your damn cat inside.
. I would keep pinging it with a BB
22 works better.
>”Stupid people keep your damn cat inside.”
I couldnt agree more. If you want your cat back alive, keep it away from the food I grow and eat, and OFF my property. Period.
My motivation is not destruction but rather dissuasion
I don’t know what’s more ridiculous, this story or the posts related to it.
1. The cats were trespassing.
2. The cats were causing property damage.
3. The cat owners allowed their pets to destroy someone else’s property.
4. The property owner had no real legal remedy.
Treat the cat like all trespassers. Why would you treat a cat better than a person? That’s freaking messed up.
I don’t know why we give cats all kinds of deference. They are generally useless animals, since most don’t let them kill rodents. I have a cat, but he keeps the rats down in the field. See. Not useless. If I caught him peeing on my food, I’d be getting a new cat.
This lady should move to Texas and buy a rifle. She’d probably do okay here.
For you candy-crying little woosy “poor little property destroying kitty” people, keep your cats away from *my* house.
Great post there. My dad would prefer a dog to a cat.
I lived in quarters in Hawaii for some time. While there a neigbor let her cat out all the time and it continually pissed on a Harley Davidson belonging to another neighbor. Well after repeated requests to have the cat stay inside, one morning about 0500 I hear a gunshot. The guy with the Harley had shot the cat with a 45. The MP’s showed up and got the guy for discharging a weapon in a housing area. End of story - no more cat, and the Harley remained clean and smelling of old leather and motor oil. The shootist retired a few years ago and told that story as long as I was stationed with him.
I’m not condoning what he did but he told the people with the cat repeatedly what to do with it. At some point you have to take the matter in hand.
I have never killed a cat, but I despise the assh@les who own cats and assume that everyone elses property is their toilet and game preserve.
I have even had some very expensive drapes ruined by someones malignant “pet” that managed to sneak in my home and freak out.
Since cat owners in general do not control or supervise their cuddly ones, cats in urban areas should require a liscense expensive enough to support an agency that will.
“Someone else said she should have used a live trap.”
Excellent idea. Then you can torture it at your leisure.
