Another worthy tidbit from the article:

People enjoyed 2 million in newsstand sales with its Jaycee Dugard issue -- including the first recent pictures of the girl who was held captive for 18 years -- but followed that with one of its worst-selling issues of the year.

Sources say the Nicole Richie baby cover now on sale is estimated to have newsstand sales of just over one million this week. That keeps People at the top of the celebrity weekly category, but not by much -- and it lags its usual average of about 1.4 million a week.

People is said to have paid in mid-six figures for the photos.

Time Warner's crown jewels are losing their luster.

"Time Warner's crown jewels are losing their luster."

Yes, quite true.
And as long as we're mixing & murdering metaphors for the express purpose of producing some awfully funny conundrums? Let me add the Time-Warner's jewels surely must be getting sore as hell given all the kicks they've taken.

I don’t follow celebs that much, but when something interesting pops up, I can go to a million different online sites to see what’s up. Why do I need a magazine?

I say that as a magazine-lover, however, it seems that some ‘news’ just doesn’t need a magazine anymore.
