Clueless Republicans

Never underestimate the stupidity of the Republican Party leadership.

In the midst of an attempted power grab of unprecedented proportions by the current Democratic administration that is turning off millions of Americans...as TEA parties and town hall protests against massive government intervention continue to spread...as large percentages of Democrats are recoiling as they find "hope and change" really meant "control and loss of freedom"...the Republican Party has been presented with the chance to saddle this momentum and ride it to power.

-snip-

-snip-....

astute and prudent Republican leaders would recognize this as an incredible opportunity to field candidates who appeal to these values, and return the Party to national prominence.

But proving that they have no greater enemy than themselves and seemingly possess a desire to ensure a permanent minority status, the leadership of the Republican Party has decided to do the exact opposite. The special election in New York's 23rd Congressional District is a perfect example.

In a primarily conservative district, Republican John McHugh has resigned his seat to serve as secretary of the Army. One of the candidates vying to take that position in the special election is Dede Scozzafava, a radical liberal who has won the Margaret Sanger award for her commitment to destroying life in the womb. She favors gay marriage, supports the freedom-destroying "card check" bill that would deprive workers of the right to a secret ballot, and has a penchant for supporting big-government budgets. She's been endorsed by ACORN, public-employee unions, Markos Moulitsas (the founder of the far-left blog, Daily Kos)...and has received two other recent endorsements: the National Republican Campaign Committee and alleged conservative leader Newt Gingrich!

Sending out a plea to supporters, Gingrich wrote that Scozzafava is "our best chance to put responsible and principled leaders in Washington."

...when the RNC fundraising letter comes in the mail asking you to contribute to defeat the "radical liberals in Washington," I would heartily encourage you to do the following: open it up, paste a picture of Newt and Scozzafava in the middle with a red heart drawn around them, and on the line for your contribution amount write, "Not one darn, dirty dime."

It's not called the stupid party for nothing!

They're not stupid. They no exactly what they are doing. The OP has deliberately supported the big tent, reach out across the aisle, in the spirit of bipartisanship mentality to expand the voter base. In doing so they have incrementally embraced socialism and consequently merged its political ideology with the socialist RATs to form one big socialist Republicrat party.

It's stupid for people to cling to the OP knowing they have no intention of changing. It is a far more effective strategy to leave the OP and unite under a second party strong on conservative principles.

Got my census letter with the usual request for a donation last week from the RNC. I sent the form letter from Michael Steele and census back to them with a note,
“Please stop asking me for money! I will not donate one penny until the RNC starts backing conservative candidates.”

The liberal media has savaged and intimidated Republican officials to the point of instilling the Stockholm Syndrome in them. The unprecedented hatred and vitriol that conservatives like Sara Palin have endured terrifies career elected bureaucrats into abject subservience. What they fail to realize is that conservatives are so despised simply because they oppose the evil of totalitarianism and are a threat to it; they can prevail. Appeasement and compromise are not solutions but ultimately are surrender. Evil hates what it fears, and it only fears what can destroy it.

I heard Newt 'defend' his endorsement of this Scozzafava (say that fast five times) person last week on Fox and it was utterly bizarre. My conclusion was that Newt's, nuts.

Not stupid - Democrat moles.
Everyone who is not all three - economic, security, social conservative - should be purged from local and national party offices.
They will just go where they were supposed to be anyway.

He is nuts!
He isn’t nuts all the time. He has enough moments of brilliance that many folks get suckered in, but this is certainly another teachable moment.

I knew that Newtie had a screw loose when he posed with Nutzy Pelousy to demonstrate his solidarity with her on the issue of gorebal warming.

. . . . astute and prudent Republican leaders . . . .

Does NOT describe any of those currently elected as Republicans. "Clueless, out-of-touch, self-absorbed, RINO doormats" better describe what is currently serving in Congress as the "loyal opposition" today!!

I agree that the GOP has been cowed and intimidated by Democrats and their public relations officers in the news media.

However, "Stockholm Syndrome" is the result of unresolved feelings of guilt; in the Republicans' case it comes from accepting the premises and principles of their adversaries. As such, they lack a solid foundation upon which to build for the future.

I will continue to hammer this point home as frequently as I can: the GOP needs to decide what it means to be a Republican. What are the central foundational principles of the Party and what do they mean in terms of policy preference?

Until the Republicans clarify precisely what it is they believe in, they will muddle along in confusion. When you announce your Party's support for one set of principles, that action necessarily excludes another (opposing) set of principles. As you open the Party door to invite people in, you also invite others to leave. And in my opinion, it is long past time for some to leave.

Someone here on FreeRepublic speculated that the mailroom interns at the RNC are probably trained to just harvest the checks and throw everything else in the trash. Here is how I am sending my message in the next RNC fund raising letter I get.

I have scanned one of my checks. I scanned both sides. Then, I obscured the account numbers. I have printed double sided color copies of this and trimmed them. The copies look nearly identical to an actual check. I have two of these, one filled out to match my donation to Doug Hoffman, and the other filled out to match my donation to David Harmer in the California 10th district race.

After making out the “checks” to actual conservative candidates, I have written with a red sharpie, “I support conservative candidates” across the faces of the checks. Those checks will be mailed to the RNC and NRCC with their next fundraising return envelopes.

Perhaps these checks will make it further into the RNC. Maybe someone will actually read the message sent this way.

Also, be aware, not only is the NRCC funding a radical leftist in upstate New York. They are also ignoring a fiscal conservative in a close, potentially winnable race out in California. Here is more info about that:

I support David Harmer for California’s 10th Congressional District (donations). He is a conservative candidate who has been a fellow at the Heritage Foundation and the Cato institute. He is committed to controlling spending, promoting economic growth, and free market solutions to todays problems.

I am also contacting the NRCC to ask why they are supporting Scozzafava in the race in upstate New York, and why they are ignoring David Harmer in this close race in California’s 10th district. Here are the numbers if anyone else wants to call:

Info from the NRCC "contact us" web page:
Contact the NRCC

Address:

320 First Street, SE
Washington, DC 20003

General Email:
website@nrcc.org

Phone:
Phone: 202-479-7000

Also, perhaps those of us who donated to the RNC or RCCC should ask for our money back so we can support the conservative candidates of our choice.

From the desk of
cc2k:
Candidates I support: Doug Hoffman for Congress, NY 23rd (PayPal), David Harmer for Congress, CA 10th (website for info).

Please, spread the word about these important special elections on November 3, 209: New York’s 23rd congressional district and California’s 10th congressional district.

My conclusion was that Newt's, nuts.

Nope, he wants to be liked by the press and sell his latest book. Bottom line, money! Isn't that always the bottom line, "love of money the root of all evil".

in the Republicans' case it comes from accepting the premises and principles of their adversaries. As such, they lack a solid foundation upon which to build for the future.

This describes the moderates perfectly. They have no core principles, other than the need to be liked. They want to be accepted by the Democrats because they see them as the cool kids in the class, so to speak. They may not lead the same lives that Democrats lead, but deep down inside they admire the things that the Dems can get away with. Unfortunately, the Dems are destroying this country and the moderates are aiding and abetting this destruction.
