Bien-pensant conservative elites and establishment-friendly Republican big shots yearn for a more moderate, temperate and sophisticated Republican Party. It's not likely to happen. And probably just as well.
This Story A good time to be a conservative Who's 'us' to the GOP? Time to reawaken young voters The Gallup poll released Monday shows the public's conservatism at a high-water mark. Some 40 percent of Americans call themselves conservative, compared with 36 percent who self-describe as moderates and 20 percent as liberals.
The conservative number is as high as it's been in the two decades that Gallup has been asking the question.
What's more, fully 72 percent of Republicans say they're conservative. Thirty-five percent of independents do so as well -- and presumably the percentage of conservatives among independents who might be inclined, where the rules permit it, to vote in GOP primaries would be much higher.

Don’t know that it’s a ‘good time’ to be a conservative, but we’re here and we’re not going to give up. At least we KNOW what we are and what we stand for.

Yeah, great time to be a Conservative. No Conservative leaders, RINOs all over the place, no one to put up against Obama in 2012, eight years of Obama, the country being overtaken by Socialism, health care being run by the government... A great time!

40% of Americans may ‘call’ themselves conservatives, but 75% of them don’t know what conservatism entails.
I have disagreed with William in the past, and he doesn’t 100% Get it right in this article, but he almost totally right on, on this!
Time is right for an uncontrollable unapologetically conservative outsider to rise to power in the GOP. That won’t make the RINO leadership happy.
Who?! You got one in mind?
