*NEW* PPP (D) Poll - VA Gov. -- McDonnell (R) 55 / Deeds (D) 40

McDonnell expands lead again

Raleigh, N.C. – Bob McDonnell now leads the race to be Virginia’s next Governor 55- 40, up from 52-40 a week ago.

Democratic voters have been showing gradually less interest in the election over the last month as it has becoming increasingly clearer McDonnell is the likely winner. A month ago 37% of likely voters were Democrats. That declined to 33% a week ago and now to 31%.

McDonnell is winning 94% of the Republican vote while Deeds is at only 84% of the Democratic vote. McDonnell also has a 59-34 lead with independents.

Deeds’ favorability numbers continue to worsen, with 38% of the electorate now holding a positive opinion of him to 49% unfavorable. Those numbers may relate to another finding in the poll, which is that 59% of voters think he has run a mostly negative campaign to only 25% who think it’s been mostly positive.

“At this point it’s pretty hard to see Creigh Deeds pulling it out,” said Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling. “The numbers have been moving consistently in Bob McDonnell’s direction over the last month. There would have to be some sort of ‘October Surprise’ to change the course of the race.”

Republicans have solid leads down ballot as well. Bill Bolling leads Jody Wagner 50-38 for Lieutenant Governor and Ken Cuccinelli is up 52-36 on Steve Shannon for Attorney General. The Democrats in those races have not shown an ability to separate their fates from Deeds over the course of the general election.

PPP surveyed 729 likely Virginia voters from October 23rd to 26th. The survey’s margin of error is +/-3.6%. Other factors, such as refusal to be interviewed and weighting, may introduce additional error that is more difficult to quantify.

Complete results are attached and can be found at www.publicpolicypolling.com.

Here’s a connection to ponder:

There was an ACORN sting film from Maryland.
Maryland is between New Jersey and Virginia.
Republicans will win governorships in New Jersey and Virginia.

While there is clearly Obama-disgust going on here, we are looking at a landslide in a purple state and a win in a blue state.

They have let the Virginia Governorship go, watch NJ, they will try and steal that one.

For the record if PPP has McDonnell fairly well up, its a huge lead, they are so pro-dem is unbelievable, they were so far up bambi’s butt last year.

"And how will the national media spin this landslide win on Election Night?"

As a narrow margin with no mandate.
