George P. Bush, or "P" as he's known to some, is thought to be the biggest hope for a fourth generation of Bush family political leaders, with some suggesting that he might run for statewide office in Texas at some point in the next four to eight years. But, as The Daily Beast points out today, any future George P. Bush political ambitions will have to be put on hold as his Navy Reserve unit is set to be deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan in the coming weeks.
Lt. Junior Grade Bush, 33, joined the Navy Reserve in 2007 as an intelligence officer. The Navy recently told him, like thousands of others, that the two ongoing wars required him to go active-duty overseas, potentially in Iraq or Afghanistan. "It's been communicated to me that it's not a question of 'if,' it's a question of 'when,'" Bush told The Daily Beast. "It's just a matter of time." Bush, who said that he was inspired by the service of his grandfather George H.W. Bush as well as former NFL star Pat Tillman, signed up for an eight-year term in the Navy Reserve in 2007. When word got out about his enlistment, Bush told Politico that he was "disappointed" as he'd intended to keep it under wraps, saying, "I was hoping to keep this as confidential as possible. I'm not doing it for political purposes or anything along those lines." However, prior to his joining some opponents of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan roundly criticized the Bush administration for the Bush family's lack of service in the war effort,

Looks like P, is angling to compete with”D” some election cycle in the future?...
As in Duncan D Hunter.
Terrible thing to happen true, but lets see no more buildings BLOWN UP.
No Malls BLOWN UP.
No Sarin Gas RELEASED.
However, all this remains a possibility under OBAMA, Mr. Nobel Peace Prize who hasn’t done anything but sink our Country deeper into debt, and is piling even more onto it.
I’d take W in a heartbeat.
This is he.
Dear “P”, please marry a nice Afghan woman and never return to the States. Thank you.
Maybe Iraq, but is Afghanistan a likely destination for a Navy Reserve unit? Afghanistan is landlocked. Are there a lot of Navy Reservists serving on the ground there in some sort of extraordinary capacity?
“Lt. Junior Grade Bush, 33, joined the Navy Reserve in 2007 as an intelligence officer”
I would not be surprised if there were.
No thanks. No more Bush’s. GW could ahve been really good but he lost me when he pushed amnesty with McCain. He also gave up at the end. Sad.
Wait a minute, who decided we were ‘freaks’, you? Excuse me, am I wrong? All my life I thought anyone who was qualified according to the “Constitution” could run for the office and possibly win! Did that change when some members of the same family wanted to run and win? Is it illegal for some members of the same family to aspire to that goal? When did that change? Good Lord! If he wants to run, he can if he wants!
Does he have to ask for your permission first? No, he doesn’t! If you don’t want to vote for him or support him, that’s your right. What you don’t have is the right to deny an American citizen the right to run for president if they are qualified! Furthermore, whether you like it or not, you definitely don’t have the right to dictate to other people on here about who to support/vote for! No one on here needs your permission either!
A freak indeed.....grrr...
Uhmm... Did he do something personally to you? He hasn’t run for anything yet, didn’t you notice? Why does he have to stay in Afghanistan? There might be a problem with that; he would be a bigamist. He’s already taken, like-married!
I thought we fought a war to do away with monarchy! What is the deal that every politician’s relative thinks they ought to be in a position of power, too. What a great gravy train this is.
No more King Georges. No more Roosevelt. No more Kennedys. No more Tafts. No more RINOs.
Well said.
I hope NOT!
He’s an open borders elitist. No more Bushes. Period. End of story.
Well we’ll see, won’t we? If he wants to run someday, he can. Now that doesn’t mean he’ll win. Also, if some people want to vote for him, they will; they don’t need your permission! We’ll just have to see what he offers, and what he stands for, don’t we?
As you said yourself, end of story!
Will some of you people please settle down? There is no monarchy in this country, we all know that. But some of you are going ape over something that hasn’t happened! There is nothing, absolutely nothing, in the Constitution that says that families of past presidents can’t run like anyone else!
If you don’t like it, then have the Constitution amended! Besides, who got in between George H.W., and after George W.? They’re not related to these two men in the least; that’s not a monarchy, is it? Furthermore, besides the two Presidents Bush, there have been at least 3 other situations where there were 2 presidents of one family. The Adamses, Harrisons (gr.parent-gr.son), Roosevelts (cousins).
There were also a few others I know/suspect were distantly related. (Pierce to Bush, possibly Coolidge to Jefferson)Now, were they all in some type of monarchical succession? Heck no! In fact, from what I’ve read, some people were trying to get Lincoln’s kid to run for pres! He eventually declined (could anyone blame him?)
If he (George P.) wants to run, he has a right to. Also, those who want to vote for them, can! If that makes some of you mad, that’s too bad! I wouldn’t personally support a Kennedy, not the way many of them have become. However, like it or not, they do have a right to run if they qualify!
No, it’s not “completely nuts” like you said!
What about Duncan Hunter and his son? Aren’t they succeeding each other? Aren’t THEY now part of a political ‘dynasty’?
Not that I have anything against them at all. In fact, I wouldn’t have a problem if Sr. or Jr. wanted to run for the presidency. But with so many people on here squalling about dynasties becoming monarchies, there is no mention at all of them? It’s ok for them, but not members of the Bush family? What if Michael Reagan wanted to run, wouldn’t that constitute a ‘dynasty’?
Frankly, I think it would be great! However, he’s still considered part of a ‘dynasty’, isn’t he? Also, he could be considered a ‘monarch’ if he won, by your standards, wouldn’t he? Some of you may need to think that over! That is all theoretical. I don’t know if he’d ever run anyway. But if he ran, and won, would you support that? You would get another conservative Reagan, wouldn’t you?
