First of all, you’re going to find that mormons are on your side 98 percent of the time in the cultural and political wars, so you’d better get used to it.

Secondly, you’re never going to agree with everyone on everything, its pointless to insist that everyone be lock-step on matters of philosophy or faith. So learn to agree when you agree and disagree respectfully when you disagree with a 98% friend.

I doubt I agree with anyone on this board 100% on anything, I’m not sure I even agree with myself 100% of the time. Its not required.

In any case, your faith walk is a journey. You don’t have the understanding today that you will have 10 years from now, I don’t care who you are. Grant others that same grace.

Let Glenn Beck believe what he wants. Everyone has a private reality when it comes to spiritual matters.

And they’re entitled to it, unless they jam it down everyone else’s throat (some “creationists” come to mind).

My position is that Beck simply doesn’t know what is in the Book of Mormon.

The only thing he knows about it is what he has been told... with the exception of reading from it in very small bits and pieces which fails to put it into it’s full context.

Human loyalties are not always based upon truth, but rather by action. No doubt that when Beck was at his low point in life, the Mormons somehow brought him through it, and Beck loves them for that, and simply refuses to scrutinize their doctrines... otherwise, I’m sure that he would certainly recognize the inconsistencies.

Unfortunately, while he is successfully making a serious difference in the political war, he is failing to make a dent in the spiritual one. The two are related.

You may have noticed that he doesn’t spend very much time if any speaking about the benefits of mormonism... and pretty much keeps it to himself.

I say its because he simply hasn’t scrutinized it like he has done with Obama.

Anyway, am I nutz or does Beck being a Mormon seem bizarre?

You're just nutz and Glenn Beck is bizarre.

The rest of us are okay though.

In a way we need to leave the Book of Mormon out of the conversation, not that I believe it is the Word of God. When asked about those preaching in His name, although they were not given the authority to do so... Plus Glenn just said he believed Jesus was the Savior of the World. There most definitely is some stuff in Mormonism that is just plain weird to my conservative, evangelical Christian mind, but Glenn is NOT AGAINST GOD OR JESUS.

The following are quotes:

Matthew 12:30 NIV
(30) “He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.

Mark 9:40 NIV
(40) for whoever is not against us is for us.

The man who was “not against Christ” in Mark 9:38-39, was for Him. He operated in Jesus name, and did work for Jesus. Thus, when you’re not against Christ, you are for Him, and that means you are doing His work, and are publicly claiming to operate by the authority of His name. Someone who admits he is not a believer in or follower of Christ, and who is not doing His work in His name, is not “neutral”. That person is against Christ.

Both verses prove you are either for or against Christ. Those who are not with Him are against Him. Those who are not against Him are for Him, and are making that known by doing His work and claiming the authority of His name. In either case, you are either for or against Christ. There is no “neutral”.

(the above explanation is not mine, but I thought is was a good one)

Some of the Founders were Deists- I’m not, but I’d take pretty much any of the Founders over most anyone in Congress now.

...because Glenn Beck hasn’t fact-checked the Book of Mormon as thoroughly as he’s fact-checking the Obama czars.

Every Mormon I have ever met is extremely hard-working, bright, conservative and alcohol-free. Beyond that, I won't address whether you are nuts.

Some of the smartest folks in the world are atheist.

Seems that smart and right don’t always jibe on matters of faith.

Maybe he accepts it as a matter of faith . If some one wants to defend any religion based on logic and proof , and without relying on sacred scriptures bring it on .

Any Christian knows that the book... is severely flawed and that ... was no prophet

Your premise is so deeply flawed it is incredible. If you are a Christian, unless you are a practicing Catholic, then you have adopted teachings beyond the basic foundation of Christian belief. Does that make your beliefs deeply flawed? By your own standards it does. Of course from the perspective of your personal faith, your beliefs are not flawed, so you yourself are a contradiction to your own standards. So what is flawed, your belief system or the artificial standard that you have created?

I don't think you're nuts. To answer the bigger question, each of us is human, and imperfect. Many (probably all) humans have one or more "weird" beliefs or belief systems - no two humans have the same mind or thought process. I don't give a second thought to Beck's Mormonism, nor to Romney's.

If they were practicing Muslims, I would not trust them, but I harbor no such prejudice against Mormons.

Valid question. 1st) He married into it I think. Obviously if he turned his investigative powers towards Mormonism it wouldnt last a week. But he wont since his wife is Mormon. Maybe someday though.....

Almost everyone coming to a personal realization of God simply accepts their surrounding family and cultural norms. Very few are willing to delve deeply, because simple rationality isn’t enough and emotional experiences simply aren’t trustworthy. Having to invent for oneself a new way of thinking about spirituality is just too much for most.

I have listened to Beck since 2001.

There is no doubt in my mind that this man has a relationship with Jesus Christ. THAT is what matters most to God, so far be it for me to judge a damn thing.

but if you want to spend precious time worrying about this, rather than ACORN, union thugs, corruption, Marxism, war, terror, unemployment, debt, dollar plummeting etc, God Bless ya!

Before we try to explain Beck’s blind spot re the BoM, we should try to explain his blind spot re Mitt Romney.
