The attacks were sharper. The barbs more focused. But in the end, the underlying message was the same in the latest King County executive's debate.
Dow Constantine and Susan Hutchison upped the rhetoric and the slings and arrows had a little more punch, but the two kept coming back to this:
Constantine is responsible for the King County budget mess. Hutchison is a Republican in moderate's clothes with no experience.
When the two did get to issues, Hutchison announced that she believes light rail over Lake Washington should go on a new 520 Bridge, not I-90 as voters approved. Constantine fired back that she's really trying to kill light rail because her major donors are against it.
As for the King County Executive's race, one poll conducted by KING-TV/Survey USA Poll, shows Susan Hutchison leading in the polls by about five percent over Dow Constantine. As many as 11 percent of those polled were undecided. The Survey USA Poll has a 4.4 percent margin of error.
Political analyst John Arthur Wilson said Constantine's greatest challenge is to separate himself from negative feelings toward the current King County Executive's Office, "What's happening, in part, is independent voters are saying 'Maybe it's time for somebody else to run King County' and that clearly is going to play to Susan Hutchison's strengths."
Election Day is November 3. The last day to register to vote is October 26.

A Republican is leading for King County (Seattle & suburbs) Executive? That’s amazing. I really hope she wins.
She’s been a local media personality for years, and is a very likeable person. King County has done far worse for County Executives...particularly the execrable Ron Sims, who recently joined the Obama Administration.
Looks like another RINO. We’ve got RINOs in statewide office in WA, two of whom take their marching orders from the Democrats, and both times the orders read: “Screw Dino Rossi.”
She’s a RINO? I didn’t know that. To be honest, I don’t know much about her. But in any event, if any Republican can win a county-wide post in a county that gave Obama 70% of the vote, it’s a sign of which way the winds are blowing.
I think I had a crush on her several decades ago.
I'm familiar with media newsspeak. Y'know, like how the historic and well-established color for Communists is made the color for the GOP and how a far-left RINO is called a "moderate."
My family and I will be enthusiastically voting for her. No, she isn’t a rock-ribbed conservative, but she’s the most reasonable candidate to come forward in our state since Dino Rossi and she is worlds apart from the dhimmis like Constantine.
Washington state ping.
sionnsar has the WA ping list.
Say WA? Evergreen State ping

FReepmail sionnsar if you want on or off this ping list.
Ping sionnsar if you see a Washington state related thread.
According to the article’s cryptic disclosure, it sounds like the Republican is up by 47% to 42%. In King County! And if they describe her as “a Republican in moderate clothing” then perhaps she’s actually conservative.
DJ, see my post 12. They said that she’s “Republican in moderate clothing,” which means that she’s pretending to be a moderate but isn’t really. So she may not be the liberal you assume she is.
Well, I hope I’m wrong. There often tends to be fewer things more useless (or harmful) than an urban RINO in a Dem-heavy area.
Yeah what the big cites need is a contrast to rat rule not an echo.
I have no clue how conservative Sue Sullivan is or not. Googling her leads to a huff post article titled “Susan Hutchison — Washington State’s Sarah Palin?”
Whether RINO or not I find it surprising she’s leading. Suburban King county seems to be going the way of suburban Cook county.
But the statewide Republicans/RINOs Reed and McKenna did carry King county in their easy 2008 reelections.
