Its as old as the Bible, the taking of a census. The ancient Romans did it. Medieval England did it. Its written into our Constitution that a census be conducted once every 10 years, and yet, every 10 years, the idea of the government counting the population breeds varying levels of controversy, fear and suspicion.
Which, in a way, is normal; distrust of intrusive government is encoded in the American DNA. Weve been doing this 200-odd years, says census historian Margo Anderson, and every decade, there is some issue with the census. Wow !
The Constitution authorized the counting of citizens only...not how many cars you have, your race and all of the other intrusive questions you are supposed to answer under the fear of being prosecuted under the law if you don’t answer.
Head counts only...nothing more.
The problem is that the census has become too politicized and intrusive into our privacy.

SLAM door.
Hear, hear! That is SOP in our household, except that we add that there is a child under 18. Nothing more should be required; nothing more need be said.

No one has a problem with the government doing a count. No one. The problem is all the other information they're collecting with the excuse of doing the census. The problem is taking GPS coordinates of every house in America. For what purpose? The problem is gangster government hiring political gangsters, ACORN, to partner in the Census.
