Lend to small business, Obama tells big banks

Big banks that got big bailout bucks should return the favor by lending more to qualified small businesses, President Barack Obama says.

In his weekly radio and Internet address Saturday, Obama said too many small business owners remain unable to get credit despite administration steps to jump-start lending, which was virtually frozen when the financial crisis took hold last year.

"These are the very taxpayers who stood by America's banks in a crisis, and now it's time for our banks to stand by creditworthy small businesses and make the loans they need to open their doors, grow their operations and create new jobs," Obama said.

Why should banks loan to small business when they get better returns at the gov’t trough with no risk?

What small business would want to expand in this economy? With the slew of tax hikes on the horizon-cap and tax, health care tax mandates, expiration of the Bush tax cuts small business must hunker down. If the government does issue attractive loans there will be strings attached. Perhaps a salary cap for the owner, stipulations for employers such as wages, paid vacations etc.
No Faustian bargain for me.

Exactly!
Small business see the deficit spending as a tax increase. They cannot keep kicking the can down the road for much longer.
Taking advice for folks in DC that can’t read a balance sheet or even know what a profit margin is? No, thanks. What about you?
The Fed will be paying everyone in IOU’s just like CA soon.

I would not ever submit an application to NObama & his minions.
Too much private information given to people I don’t trust.

What small business would want to expand in this economy”

The offer to get a ‘tax credit’ for hiring a new employee just isn’t getting traction.

I post a couple of days ago with how much a simple minimum wage worker would cost a business. Not worth it.
