"Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, called the measure "part of a radical social agenda that could ultimately silence Christians and use the force of government to marginalize anyone whose faith is at odds with homosexuality."

There is a good and brief discussion of the unconstitutionality of the bill here:

The purpose of the bill is to put Christians, Jews, normalsexuals in jail for their thoughts, and to let scot free anyone who assaults Christians, Jews or normalsexuals.

hate
verb (used with object) as in HATE CRIME
1.to dislike intensely or passionately;
feel extreme aversion for or extreme hostility toward;
to detest:
to hate the enemy;
to hate bigotry.
If someone were to dislike intensely or passionately, a pedophile, would it be a "hate crime"?
If criminalizing something that someone is passionate about is passed into law, that's the same thing as CRIMINALIZING THOUGHT.
HATE CRIME = THOUGHT CRIME
Hate Crime laws are more than an attack on free speech, they are an attempt to criminalize thought.

Why do they always make a big to-do AFTER the fact on things like this. One of the commentaries in the morning paper talked about this. We here on FR know about this stuff happening, but the average person is concentrating on jobs, family, and going about their daily lives. Had the press gone into this BEFORE it happened, MAYBE it could have been stopped. It's frustrating to say the least.

This is one area where the US has a lot to learn from muslims (and Africans, and Asians, and South Americans...)
