TPM ^ | October 23, 2009 | Eric Kleefeld

Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R-KS), who is currently running for the Republican nomination in a contested 2010 U.S. Senate primary, has now endorsed Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman in the NY-23 special election -- the second sitting member of Congress to openly do so, after Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN).

Tiahrt's press release blasts the moderate GOP nominee Dede Scozzafava, questions her party loyalty, and casts the race as a test for the soul of the GOP:

Don't be a “one issue” nut.

If you expect EVERY candidate to agree with you, 100%, on EVERYTHING, you will never win.

Armey did the RIGHT THING this time.

Would you rather have Dick Armey support Dede S??

You need to develop a bit more political maturity, and avoid the circular firing squads.

Last year's opponent is often this year's friend, in politics.

Grow up.

I disagree.

Moran votes OK, most of the time, but Moran is NOT a friend of the Conservative Movement.

I, personally, overheard Moran use the term “wingers” in a derogatory fashion, when discussing conservatives in Kansas.

Moran is NOT a friend to movement conservatives. Moran votes the way he does because he HAS TO, given the rural, conservative district he represents.

And, to use the phrase “odd Todd” and to have NOTHING on your profile -— has my “troll meeter” buzzing a bit.

Why the negative comments about such a good Conservative, like Tiahrt?

Kansas voted, in the caucuses, overwhelmingly for Huckabee, as a PROTEST vote, though Huck was not the favorite of all conservatives.
Kansas conservatives will also unite behind Tiahrt.

Moran is NOT one of us!

I went to the JOCO caucus at BVNW last year. I was surprised that Huck won there especially with Goldwater pushing him. But the real question is do you want to change America in a new direction?

You state that Moran is a Rino! But I disagree. You can’t make a full swing back to the right without having gained some votes in the middle ground of America. Kansas is not the middle ground and if you want to Keep Obama and the democrats that keep pushing canidates so far to the right that people like Obama get elected from what might have been a swing voter to the GOP.

The GOP will not win a Presidential election ever again if we have the Phil Kline republicans running the party.

You can take your personal attacks and stick ‘em where the sun don’t shine. I won’t compromise now or ever on national security, any more than any conservative would be willing to compromise now or ever on same sex marriage or abortion. Willingness to compromise on conservatism is what got us our top tier RHINO candidates, including the McCain/Palin ticket.

I was not asking you to VOTE for anyone that was not “perfect” was I?
I repeat, your attitude is counter productive.
The majority of the voting public is not 100% behind the conservative cause.
However, more people count themselves as “conservative” as opposed to “liberal” if those are the two choices. This remains true when the term “moderate” is thrown in there, as well.
YOU make the error of believing that we do not NEED moderate voters to vote for conservatives.
YOU are wrong, in that belief.
There is a HUGE difference between being tough on candidates, and being tough, even mean spirited, towards the supporters of a candidate.
Yes, sometimes, we can get a clue as to a who a candidate is by there supporters, if we have nothing else to go on.
However, there is NO excuse for bashing Armey when Dick Armey is NOT on the ballot anywhere, and when Dick Armey is trying to help the conservative cause with his endorsement of Hoffman.
I still question your attitude, your strategy, and your political maturity.
As long as the candidate is CONSERVATIVE, why tell liberals or moderates or RINO’s that they are not allowed to help that candidate?

That IS what you are doing.

You have outed yourself.

YOU are a RINO, it seems.

Phil Kline was and is a good man. He was treated horribly by the media for doing his job. That you do not have the courage to stick up for Kline shows your true colors.

Don’t forget who beat Kline, that Johnson County creep Paul Morrison.

What happened to HIM again?

Oh, yes, he resigned in disgrace, did he not?

Did you vote for the RINO turned Democrat, Paul Morrison, against Kline?

I bet you did, didn’t you?

And you have the nerve to tell us what to think?

You have coined a new term:

“Additude”

Is that the ability to ADD to Conservative numbers?

If so, I am all for it.

My attitude supports “additude”!

I take that as an admission, btw, that you DID vote for the disgraced Paul Morrison, over the honorable Phil Kline!

Moran holds his nose and votes conservative to maintain his western Kansas fiefdom, but he’s only a conservative of convenience. Todd is a bold conservative voice who stands firm for our issues, and he’s certainly not afraid to upset the party establishment when they stray from conservative principles. Kansas conservatives know who the true conservative voice is in this race. Tiahrt has the following endorsements:
Eagle Forum
Phyllis Schlafly
Family Research Council
Tony Perkins
Dr. Bill Bennett
Mark Levin (the Great One)
Kansans for Life
Former Congressman Jim Ryun
Former Senator Rick Santorum
Sen. Jim Inhofe
Rep. Mike Rogers
These are conservative heavyweight endorsements who don’t lend their name lightly. Moran has a a few fellow C-Street roommates and a coach.
