I noticed yesterday he didn’t even know about NY 23. The guy has the political nose of beached Walrus.
Even if those people would like to be our leaders?
Now, I only served 8 years in the military, but I seem to recall that people in leadership positions need to LEAD, not EVENTUALLY FOLLOW.
If this was your next-door neighbor that finally figured out that The One isn't really going to pay his mortgage and he's considering voting for a conservative next time, then yeah, let's welcome Mr. Next-Door Better Late Than Stupid.
But when it comes to someone that one hears being mentioned as a candidate for President of the United States then no, he needs to be beaten up in the media until he goes back home and stays there.
A leader doesn’t stand with his finger in the wind waiting to decide which candidate will be best for his future. A leader chooses people based on their values and stands on the issues. I thought I could like Gov. P. Now I am not so sure.
I don’t particularly care about Pawlenty himself — the man is a milquetoast. Always has been, always will be. It’s laughable to think of him as a standard-bearer of any type.
I just don’t want to see a precedent of “now Sarah has endorsed, everyone else is pointless” — allies are always needed, and pooh-poohing folks’ contributions will make them (or others watching) less likely to contribute in the future.

The primary is the time to get the right person nominated, or in this case, a special election.
Otherwise the vote is split in the general election and the choice of the “lesser of two evils” may indeed prevent far greater evil.
If Pawlenty does this we can expect them to berate him for caving in to the far right, trying to curry favor with the extremes, etc. How he stands up to that nonsense will be very telling too.
TP spoke at CPAC a couple of times and was OK but he does seem almost too nice. If he is the nominee in ‘12 he is going to face a viciousness from the Dems we probably have never seen before and I am not sure he can deal with that.
For thirty years I have watched Massachusetts, Rogue Island, Connecticut liberal, lefty Republicans try to cowardly tail along behind big government, high tax, nanny state Democrats by being just a little less big government, a little less( this year ) high tax and so forth.
And they all got bullets to the neck, or died lonely forgotten politically curiosities.
So we should just keep at it. Right? Kind of like being in Stalin’s Russia, against Stalin but not too much. That worked well.
How about being radical for a change? Milquetoast, moderate, bland, boring, timid is no way to go through political life. Politics is war and the weak get crushed.
Why do milquetoast northern liberal lefty Republicans go extinct? Because the average voter doesn’t see a difference. So they go with the authentic, comfortable in their skin lefty Democrats. Not the fake, trembling, half stepping lefty Republican. People smell fake real good. Ask Kerry, or Mitt.

It send the message that if you have presidential asperations...LEAD NOT FOLLOW.
Win or lose, the Hoffman message to the GOP is: move to the right or become irrelevant.
Pawlenty wishes to remain relevant. Can’t fault him for that. Now all he has to do is move to the right.
My point was, Pawlenty is following Palin’s lead, and Palin is following Fred Thompson’s lead with the endorsement.
No, HW got Clinton elected. George HW only got in because of left over momentum from Reagan. Clinton was and is, a major league politician of our time. He came up, lost and came back. He was NFL quality to HW’s prep school league political experience.
Someone once said power is like a gun in the street, laying there for anyone to pick it up. I remember clearly President Bush’s term. He, and his administration, were totally tone deaf. They were totally repelled by Reagan’s constant work, and mass communication game. President Bush was Washington, East Coast, he literally inherited the Presidency, and acted so.
He lost it. And he lost it to a pro, and he lost it because he didn’t have a clue.

Guess he figured if Palin had done it and got so much attention and donations to Hoffman he had better jump in, too. The real looser in this is Newt... big screw up for him.

Well, one of Palin’s biggest supporters is Fred’s wife... so this is still a win-win for Sarah, it was her endorsement, not Fred’s that drew attention and money to Hoffman.
