The latest published poll had Hoffman in third, but the only candidate moving up, and he was moving up a lot.

I think Armey may have seen some internal polls. Everything I have heard (though no specifics are given) says this race is a virtual tie right now. Scozzafava would be dead in third if not for the RCCC’s all in move last week and Newt’s endorsement. The money has actually been better for her than the endorsement.
This race is going to come down to advertising and money.
The district definitely has a Hoffman tilt to it. They elected a relatively conservative John McHugh last year with 65% of the vote. Hoffman is closest to McHugh’s positions on the issues. If he keeps 2 out of 3 of McHugh’s voters, he has a real shot. The other candidates are well to the left of McHugh, with Owens being a little closer to McHugh on the issues than Scozzafava.
