First-time jobless claims rise more than expected to 531,000, continuing claims fall

The number of newly laid-off workers filing claims for jobless benefits rose more than expected last week, after falling in five of the past six weeks.

There is little sign that employers are willing to hire, even as the economy shows signs of recovering.

The Labor Department says new jobless claims rose to a seasonally adjusted 531,000 last week, from an upwardly revised 520,000 the previous week. Wall Street economists had expected only a slight increase, according to Thomson Reuters.

And once again... “more than expected”. Whoever “expects” these things, sure doesn’t know what they’re doing.

It's those little signs... hidden way behind those giant Obama recovery road signs. ;-)

My thoughts exactly! The only people claiming there are signs of recovery are the lame stream media and the Obamanoids.

“There is little sign that employers are willing to hire, even as the economy shows signs of recovering.”

Lets see, the government has poured hundreds of billions of borrowed money into the economy and they claim that there are now signs of “recovery”.

Wrong.

As soon as the money is gone, so will the “recovery”. You can only live off the credit card so long before the dire consequences catch up to you. It is all smoke and mirrors.

I keep saying it. Pelosi warned us in January that without Stimulus (II), we’d lose 500 million (SIC) jobs per month. She meant 500,000 jobs, and we’re losing that many still despite their actions.

“from an upwardly revised 520,000 the previous week”

Why don’t they just downwardly revise these new numbers and call it unexpectedly good?

And next week, these figures will be revised upward. Who believes the government numbers on anything?

Journalists are now getting their diplomas from Bizzarro University

In other bizzarro news:

Gas prices are increasing, despite signs that gas prices are falling.
Democrats are dropping in the polls, despite signs that America approves of democrats.
We are losing Afghanistan, despite signs that we are winning in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, on Wall Stree, the DJIA roared up to 11,000. /s

For real, it’s uncanny how with every bad jobs report, the market spikes up.

It’s understandable why companies don’t want to hire. They have no idea what the effect of Obamacare, Cap and Tax and increased corporate taxes will have on their bottom lines. If Congress would just drop those proposals, it would be a very different story.
