ERIE, Pa. -- An Erie-area man will spend four to eight years in state prison for severely assaulting his ex-girlfriend's toddler despite a letter requesting leniency from ex-Gov. Tom Ridge.
Mr. Ridge says in the letter that he is a neighbor of 21-year-old Matthew Lazenby, who lives with his parents in Millcreek Township. Mr. Ridge says in the letter that Mr. Lazenby is a "loving and nurturing father" despite his crime.

Unbelievable!! What is wrong with that man? He has proved that he doesn’t have good judgment. Thank God he never became President. Shame on him!!

.. a loving and nurturing father.. Except when he gets mad and looses his temper.
I don't know which would be worse; that Ridge is paying off a political debt of some kind, or that he really buys into what he's saying. Either way ... "Say goodnight, Tom."

NOT the kind of Erie news I want to see.
4-8 years seems awfully lenient, and Ridge wants to give the guy a break from that?

...pleaded guilty to shaking and striking the 23-month-old toddler last Halloween, fracturing her skull and causing neurological damage...
A lifetime of neurological issues inflicted during the beating of a 23 month old child does not deserve anything remotely connected to 'leniency'.

WTH is Ridge’s argument? He waves to me when I take the trash to the curb ergo he is a kind and loving father even he beat the kid half to death?
I call for man’s sentence to be increased to at least 20 years in prison if the child’s brain damage is shown to be permanent.

If Tom Ridge ever had credibility before, he’s thrown it all away.
