In the case of Sarah Palin's new book, imitation may not be the sincerest form of flattery.
When the failed vice presidential candidate's memoir hits shelves Nov. 17, it will have some competition from a lookalike tome that spoofs the title of her book.
"Going Rouge: An American Nightmare" bears a striking resemblance to Palin's book, "Going Rogue: An American Life." Both feature the photogenic politician in red, but the spoof has her against a backdrop of black thunder clouds and lightning, instead of the image of a blue sky scattered with clouds on the ex-governors book.
Going Rouge isn't a spoof at all but a collection of essays about Palin put together by Richard Kim and Betsy Reed, editors at liberal-leaning weekly The Nation, Entertainment Weekly reported. It includes work by regular Nation contributors, including Katha Pollitt, Katrina vanden Heuvel and Naomi Klein.
The book's publisher, OR Books, which was started by industry veterans John Oakes and Colin Robinson, said it "embraces progressive change in politics, culture and the way we do business."

oprah will probably refer to this book when sarah appears on her “show”.
“Trade dress” would be the best approach, imho. I’ve been peripherally involved in a multi-decade set of lawsuits in the apparel industry, due to such a dispute.
At a minimum, they can get the knock-off “spoof” removed from the shelves during the critical early weeks and months, and that’s what matters.
Aren’t most people preordering Amazon anyway>
I know I did.
When one of Hillary’s books was prominently displayed at Borders I went over and sneezed on them. Might have to trot that old tactic out again.
I can’t quote the legalities, but this is an obvious intent to trade on the name of Sarah’s book, which IS the purpose of most all copyright and trademark law.
Bump
Parody. They're not at risk.
I think the big box booksellers won’t be too happy when dealing with pissed off customers returning the books....
Nah, Palin should ignore this. This is leftover ankle-biter stuff.
This is what the Left considers to be clever and funny. Kinda like a Tina Fey impersonation.
Yeah but if they actually look at the title they will see it doesn’t make sense. Besides, most people have already ordered the book online
Which is why I'd guess most, if not all, wouldn't carry it. There's a right to free speech in this country, but there's no right to a place on the bookshelves of Walmart and Target.
Nobody else seems to get up their nosoes the way she does.
You can’t copyright a title. Hence the large number of books and films that share titles.
Funny how they never refer to Hillary Clinton as a failed Presidential candidate..she did lose in the primary.
“Noses”, of course....
Oh my. They sure are showing their knickers, aren’t they?
They are terrified of this woman. Bwahahahahahahaha!
Even if it weren’t parody, titles are not subject to copyright. For example, there are 9 different movies entitled “Ghost Town” that have absolutely no relation to each other.
If the printing isn’t done, do a new cover and maybe a new title.
