On the Right, an Upstate Upstart By the Editors
The case for rallying around Dede Scozzafava, the liberal and nominal Republican seeking to represent New Yorks conservative 23rd Congressional District, eludes us. Scozzafava was thrust imprudently into the nomination by upstate Republican grandees faced with a special election following Republican John McHughs leaving his seat to become secretary of the army. The Republicans once again have shot themselves in the right foot.
In spite of its having gone for Obama in 2008, the districts history suggests that it is basically conservative; Ms. Scozzafava is basically not.
Boy, is she not: Not only pro-choice and in favor of homosexual marriage common if distasteful concessions to the secular liberals agenda she also supports some of the most odious items on the Lefts wish-list, including the card check initiative that would put a big cudgel in the hands of Big Labor while effectively disenfranchising millions of American workers who may not desire to become Teamsters, SEIU members, or similar.
She signed the Americans for Tax Reform pledge to oppose tax hikes but immediately declared that she was not bound by having done so. It is no surprise that she is supported by the public-employees unions, ACORN and Daily Kos founder Markos Moulitsas Zúñiga. (Really.)

Republicans are getting worse, not better.
Old-line county and city Republican organizations are big hurdles to revitalizing the party. They are built on connections and loyalty to the person. Not on issues or ideals.
Ping!!!
do you think it would make a difference if Freepers and Tea Party types started to work in the party locally?
I’m not sure if I want to.
Sounds as if NRO woke up.
DeDe is a Dem PLANT.....can’t everyone see it? Sheesh...how stupid are people!
Its the only way.
“Republicans are getting worse, not better.”
Unfortunately she is a typical NYS Republican.
I think you are right.
Even if I don’t have much clout now, I can ‘push” them right.
Sometimes, but not generally. What’s the rule for a attacking an entrenched position? Rule of Thumb: you need six times the forces. We traditional idealists, aka conservatives, are getting vigger and bigger yets we ain’t a 6 to their 1.
Nor does special ops work well — in a social warfare context the sappers and infiltrators get co-opted.
I’m of the gee I don’t know what to do but pray and persist and never never never give up mode.
As are about half of the serving elected Republicans, and probably much more of the Republican committee people in the local, state, and national organizations.
Democrats have plenty of time off from their government and dot.org jobs to run both the Democrat and Republican party apparatus. Working conservatives don't have that kind of time, so we end up with our choice of Democrat(D) or Democrat(R). Works like a charm for the communists.
I went to a Tea Party about a month ago....2000 people there. I signed a few petitions.
NO ONe was gathering names, ph numbers, or email addresses —no one asked.
so that whole effort ended that day. If we had that data we could get MORE people involved.
I was in Panera Bread last night and there were 20+ people have a grass roots political meeting. They did not dress or look like Obama supporters. No t-shirts like ACORN.
They were 50 to 70 and looked half stunned and pissed. My guess is they were conservatives or moderates who knew they were going to get screwed by Obamacare. I tried to hear what they were saying but I only got bits and pieces.
Some people are waking up.
Markos Moulitsas, founder of The Daily Kos has endorsed Scozzafava. Dede Scozzafava has also been endorsed by NYSUT, the largest labor union in New York, and an affiliate of the National Education Association.
Scozzafava also holds these positions:
Scozzafava has also run in past elections on the Working Families Party (a progressive party associated with ACORN) line on the ballot.
This lady isn’t a RINO, she is a big “R” libeRal democRat.
There are also 17 RINOs in the house who have donated funds to this LibeRal democRat's campaign. They include Boehner and Cantor. I don’t have a full list, but I will be looking for it. These unprincipled RINO enablers should be targeted for elimination in the primaries next year.
From the desk of cc2k: |
I support Doug Hoffman for Congress (PayPal). Please, spread the word about this important election on November 3, 2009 in New York’s 23rd congressional district. |
In our city at Tea Party Rallies WE collect names, etc.....I know....I entered them into a database.....
Yes, and they should organize in issue and ideal clubs. I refuse to call them “political” clubs. There are Tea Party affine groups were I live — some predated TParty, some after. Connect those groups, and run committee persons out of those groups — that would be playing to strength, and building strong foundations. Strictly proven, known members, no mere folks seeking votes. Only folks willing to hold to ideals and running for office for the sake of those ideals. Character and integrity!
That is indeed good news. But, is it too late?
After being rejected by the Democrats she approached the GOP and they said “sure”
typical NYS Republican who asked to be the Democrats candidate first?
